How can a wellness junkie/yogi-since-birth/health nut like me reconcile her deep and abiding NEED for coffee on a daily basis? Here is the genius of Bulletproof coffee come to life. Now, I know this has been around for a bit, but like most I was skeptical of its claim to fame/ health benefits/and cult like status, so of course I shied away from what everyone else was doing. But honestly, if you haven’t experienced the Bulletproof train, I suggest you hop onboard. Not only does it taste amazing (like a textured and rich chocolate-y trek through the Amazon), but I feel incredibly good. No more jittery shaking like a crazy person! No more moody spikes in energy, no more haphazard distracted pseudo-focus! The oil in Bulletproof coffee regulates metabolism, and helps brain with healthy function meaning I’m smarter, nicer, and younger looking. Plus, now that I’m rehabbing a herniated disc in my lower back, the anti-inflammatory properties are essential. Able to pursue my wellness lifestyle without giving up my (need) love of coffee? Full convert.

“This isn’t your usual coffee shop,” says Dave Asprey, CEO and founder of Bulletproof. “The food, beverages and environment are designed to create a sustained energy high; Bulletproof is not a place for a caffeine fix that sends you crashing.”

The 1,700 square foot café was built to boost performance, not just with food and coffee, but with unique biohacking technology. Bulletproof installed circadian-compliant lighting: a light box that shifts color spectrum throughout the day based on your circadian rhythms, instead of fluorescent lighting which can be draining and cause fatigue. Its also equipped with an HVAC system upgraded with Homebiotic ™ spray to create a natural barrier against potential environmental mold. Almost every feature in the café has been purposefully included to help you hack your health.

In addition to expanding its bricks and mortar locations, Bulletproof continues to increase its product selection with the addition of French Kick and The Mentalist dark roasts. Available brewed on site or for retail purchase, both are single-sourced from the same farm as the Bulletproof Original Roast and maintain the same standard of green bean selection and processing to ensure they are free from any detectable mold toxins.

  • The Mentalist features dark cocoa and vanilla aromatics opening into a rich, full-bodied coffee with cherry sweetness and notes of almond and caramel.
  • French Kick is both smooth and sweet with pleasantly smoky baking chocolate notes and a medium body that finishes clean.

Luxury Fragrance house Penhaligon’s Beverly Hills

July 13, 2016

Has anyone ever been overwhelmed and not sure how to choose a fragrance? The stores are bombarded with choices and every season a new scent seems to come out.  Where do you start and who has time to test out all of them based on the fanciest bottle. I don’t know about you but I’m over it!!!  You buy something and  get it home only to find that it gives you a headache, you smell like everyone else, or hate it. Fret no more, help is here.

Tucked away on luxurious Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills is the chic and elegant Penhaligon’s, the luxury fragrance house and where hope lies.

Penhaligon’s is a London based fine perfumery that’s been around for 146 years.  Its heritage and tradition are linked to the Royal family.  Using only quality ingredients and innovative formulations, all of their 38 fragrances tell a unique story, having taken inspiration from the unexpected world around its creator, William Penhaligon, who opened his first shop in 1872. The bottles have remained the same from day one and are distinguished with a unique ribbon. There are between 20-50 ingredients in each fragrance and over 150 different notes so you know  you’re dealing with high-end quality and expertise created by master perfumers.

Penhaligon’s insist that anyone can find the perfect fragrance so I set out to see for myself.  I went into the Beverly Hills boutique to have a 1 hour personal fragrance profile done by 2 of their lovely fragrance experts, Sue Kertis and Joelle Fluhmann.  This chic and elegant store was so beautiful and smelled, well, delicious. I was offered traditional English tea and pastries while Joelle gave me the history of the company.  Afterwards Sue chimed in with a series of questions to pinpoint my likes, lifestyle, favorite memories, foods, past fragrances, and pretty much information to determine my taste. I told her I want to smell like one of my friends that always smells beautiful and memorable each and every time time I see her.  Based on the inquisition, like magic, she presented 6 fragrances that appealed to my senses. I consider myself a hard sell and not easily persuaded but she was spot on.

The first fragrance she brought out was Equinox Bloom which is the lines top seller and is inspired by the English tradition of afternoon tea.    I instantly couldn’t get enough of it.  This warm edible gourmand fragrance was unforgettable, mesmerizing, sensual, sexy, intoxicating and light enough for both day and night. No matter what, I knew I was leaving home with that one. Another one I couldn’t shake was the very soothing, light and crisp Blenheim Bouquet.  It reminded me of a day at the spa with its lavender and citrus scent. It immediately made me feel relaxed and I put that one aside to go home with me as well.

Many more were sampled including Luna, Vara, Ellensia, and the oh so amazing, Halfeti.  My head was spinning.   If I didn’t have another appointment afterwards  I would probably still be there.

WHAT:

  • Buying a very well made fragrance like Penhaligon’s using quality ingredients last longer,  6-8 hours.
  • When testing fragrances, drink water to cleanse your palette instead of sniffing coffee beans cause the alcohol in fragrance dehydrates you.
  • You’re not supposed to smell your fragrance, others are, so don’t overdo it.
  • Spray fragrance on a freshly bathed body while your pores are open.
  • Use a light fragrance free oil on body then apply fragrance to prolong scent.

I walked out smelling as scrumptious and fragrant as my lovey friend and I am thrilled.  It’s a great experience to finally understand fragrance and find the perfect one. Men are encouraged to come in to have their profile done so couples can make this a great beginning for date nite.

Visit: www.penhaligons.com or pop over to the shop for your personal intro to the esteemed line.

Highly recommended!

Dr. Barbara Sturm “Blood Cream”

July 8, 2016

FullSizeRenderDr. Barbara Sturm

In this day and age of eternal youth and beauty, I found a gem in Dr. Barbara Sturm. I recently met this German, pint sized powerhouse scientist and renowned beauty doctor, famous for her Hollywood A listers and international  clientele, in Los Angeles.  She’s developed a unique line of skincare products that combine medical expertise and cellular healing substances designed to slow down the aging process and keep cells younger longer. Dr. Sturm believes in maximum results with the minimum number of products.

That’s why she created her signature “blood cream” a.k.a. MC1 cream. It’s a holistic, effective face cream made from a patient’s own blood which naturally contains proteins and growth factors that reduce inflammation and stimulate the healing process.  It claims to reduce the signs of aging by building collagen, shrinking pores, reducing wrinkles, relieving inflammation and clearing up skin conditions like psoriasis and other common complaints.  It’s free of mineral oil, fragrance, and parabans.

FullSizeRender-1 IMG_3814The concept is based on the understanding that a person’s blood cells have a natural ability to heal the body without the stress of using foreign substances.  She asked if I’d like to try it and I eagerly agreed. She drew blood, surprisingly pain-free, and the next day my $1400 custom “blood cream” was ready for pick up.  Along with that, she also gave me her Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Ampoules. A favorite of Jada Pinkett Smith, it’s designed to diminish fine lines, boost elasticity, and make your complexion firmer. I’ve been using both for about two weeks now and have happily been able to ditch the topical steroid cream I had become addicted to for so many years.  MC1 has a substantial, creamy consistency that absorbs nicely into the skin, not greasy. Its meant to be used both day and night. I’m really looking refreshed, younger and natural. It’s like my skin is breathing now.  The texture is firmer and I have a more youthful tone.  Well worth it if you want to indulge.

Dr. Sturm is not a fan of make up and believes women look much younger with less make up and naturally radiant skin.  She told me that she wanted me to lay off of the make up since my skin was great. We’ll have to see about that!

While Dr. Sturm’s proprietary MC1 cream is available exclusively to her patients, she has created a high performance skin care range that harnesses the power of Pursulane to address the signs of skin aging. The line is currently sold on Net-a-Porter and will launch at Violet Grey in September 2016.

LSB Sea Breeze Blue Lagoon HiRes

I didn’t make it to St. Barths this summer. Again! What are the odds of that? But I can bring a little island breeze into my bath routine with Ligne St. Barth.

It’s a new luxurious collection of bath and body products channeling the easy-going nature of life in the Caribbean. The Sea Breeze Collection consists of three delightful products that will instantly sweep you away, pervaded with the scent of spices and drenched with sunshine:

– Blue Lagoon Shower Gel: This light and seductive azure blue shower gel warms with the water to release a fragrance of the sea with a touch of musk, transporting you to far-off lands. Green and pure notes of driftwood are swept along in a salty wave of sensual splendor.

– Sunsplash Face and Body Splash: This light, dusty, rose-colored water moisturizes, refreshes, and tones your face and body without being sticky. The delicately colorful notes of citrus fruit, hibiscus, and jasmine assemble like precious pearls of dew hidden inside the folds of leaves.
