Luxury Fragrance house Penhaligon’s Beverly Hills

July 13, 2016

Has anyone ever been overwhelmed and not sure how to choose a fragrance? The stores are bombarded with choices and every season a new scent seems to come out.  Where do you start and who has time to test out all of them based on the fanciest bottle. I don’t know about you but I’m over it!!!  You buy something and  get it home only to find that it gives you a headache, you smell like everyone else, or hate it. Fret no more, help is here.

Tucked away on luxurious Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills is the chic and elegant Penhaligon’s, the luxury fragrance house and where hope lies.

Penhaligon’s is a London based fine perfumery that’s been around for 146 years.  Its heritage and tradition are linked to the Royal family.  Using only quality ingredients and innovative formulations, all of their 38 fragrances tell a unique story, having taken inspiration from the unexpected world around its creator, William Penhaligon, who opened his first shop in 1872. The bottles have remained the same from day one and are distinguished with a unique ribbon. There are between 20-50 ingredients in each fragrance and over 150 different notes so you know  you’re dealing with high-end quality and expertise created by master perfumers.

Penhaligon’s insist that anyone can find the perfect fragrance so I set out to see for myself.  I went into the Beverly Hills boutique to have a 1 hour personal fragrance profile done by 2 of their lovely fragrance experts, Sue Kertis and Joelle Fluhmann.  This chic and elegant store was so beautiful and smelled, well, delicious. I was offered traditional English tea and pastries while Joelle gave me the history of the company.  Afterwards Sue chimed in with a series of questions to pinpoint my likes, lifestyle, favorite memories, foods, past fragrances, and pretty much information to determine my taste. I told her I want to smell like one of my friends that always smells beautiful and memorable each and every time time I see her.  Based on the inquisition, like magic, she presented 6 fragrances that appealed to my senses. I consider myself a hard sell and not easily persuaded but she was spot on.

The first fragrance she brought out was Equinox Bloom which is the lines top seller and is inspired by the English tradition of afternoon tea.    I instantly couldn’t get enough of it.  This warm edible gourmand fragrance was unforgettable, mesmerizing, sensual, sexy, intoxicating and light enough for both day and night. No matter what, I knew I was leaving home with that one. Another one I couldn’t shake was the very soothing, light and crisp Blenheim Bouquet.  It reminded me of a day at the spa with its lavender and citrus scent. It immediately made me feel relaxed and I put that one aside to go home with me as well.

Many more were sampled including Luna, Vara, Ellensia, and the oh so amazing, Halfeti.  My head was spinning.   If I didn’t have another appointment afterwards  I would probably still be there.

WHAT:

  • Buying a very well made fragrance like Penhaligon’s using quality ingredients last longer,  6-8 hours.
  • When testing fragrances, drink water to cleanse your palette instead of sniffing coffee beans cause the alcohol in fragrance dehydrates you.
  • You’re not supposed to smell your fragrance, others are, so don’t overdo it.
  • Spray fragrance on a freshly bathed body while your pores are open.
  • Use a light fragrance free oil on body then apply fragrance to prolong scent.

I walked out smelling as scrumptious and fragrant as my lovey friend and I am thrilled.  It’s a great experience to finally understand fragrance and find the perfect one. Men are encouraged to come in to have their profile done so couples can make this a great beginning for date nite.
