Supercharging Your Immune System Amidst Coronavirus

March 18, 2020

Scientifically Backed Unusual & Unique Tips from MD + Naturopathic Doctor About How To Supercharge Your Immunity

“The two biggest risks right now are the mistaken belief that there is nothing you can do to reduce your risk of infection and fear that if you get the virus, your recovery is out of your control. There is much we can do to reduce the spread of the infection and improve the probability of having a mild case if you are infected.” -Dr. Terry Wahls, MD

GROUNDING

  • One characteristic intrinsic to the human experience is connecting to the earth with our bare feet.

  • This study shows that electrons from the earth may in fact be the best antioxidants, with zero negative secondary effects

COLD SHOWER

BLACK OUT CURTAINS

  • Addressing sleep hygiene is crucial if you’re having trouble falling asleep.

  • Our lifestyle choices like watching TV, sending emails, and turning on bright lights often block these natural pro-sleep chemical shifts from occurring.

  • Utilizing tools such as black out curtains and eye masks can help individuals get the sleep that they need.

  • Studies show that “sleep deprivation makes a living body susceptible to many infectious agents.”

Recommendations below from Dr. Terry Wahls, MD, Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, author of The Wahls Protocol: A Radical New Way to Treat All Chronic Autoimmune Conditions Using Paleo Principles

USE A NETIPOT

  • This cleans your nasal tissue and reduces the virus’s ability to take hold.

SKIP THE ITALIAN FOOD

  • Improve the quality of your diet by removing added sugars, white flours, and pastas

  • A high–glycemic index diet dumps a lot of glucose (sugar) into your bloodstream, which decreases your immune cells’ effectiveness at protecting you from illness.

  • Focus on vegetables and meat (legumes and gluten-free grains for vegetarians and vegans) and get rid of sweet desserts.

CONSUME FERMENTED FOOD

  • The probiotics in these foods help modulate the immune response, lowering the risk of septic shock in response to serious viral infections.

  •  In addition, sauerkraut is a good source of vitamin C.

Is The Grove The New Beauty Mecca? Sephora Opened (Bigger and Better) And Meet OrangeTwist

December 2, 2019

And I just moved out of the hood too – ARGH! What kind of timing am I on?!

The mecca of all things beauty, Sephora, just opened across from the old Sephora at The Grove, only more massive. And OrangeTwist which I recently checked out at their Brentwood Location, is now also here – offering injectibles and lasers. I could have walked to get my Botox? WHAT THE HECK?!

I had an amazing session at OrangeTwist in Brentwood with a wonderful low-key natural nurse for botox and fillers – Her name is Neda! SEE HER!

And I’m certain only the best providers will be at this location.

The fair has expanded considerably in the five years since its inception, and now features a full weekend of programming curated by founder Heather Culp and produced in collaboration with Conscious City Guide—workshops, panels, participatory experiences, live music, an artisan marketplace, children’s activities, and food & beverage vendors who all exemplify the core ethos of Mercado Sagrado.
Held in the beautiful Malibu Canyon, Mercado Sagrado offers a family-friendly weekend of learning and experience for an ever-growing demographic of people who wish to find deeper community, embrace personal expansion and deepen their connection to the planet, purchase goods made with reverence, and engage in more joyful and sustainable practices across all facets of their lives. The fair has grown from 500 attendees in its first year to almost 5,000 in 2018—a tenfold increase in just five years—and the 2019 fair promises an abundance of new sights, sounds, and experiences for attendees.

Welcome Onekind !

October 10, 2019

The new, inclusive and shockingly affordable skincare line fighting the pink tax is THAT GOOD.

ONEKIND

They recently launched online and at all Heyday locations. Loving this brand that set out to rewrite the rules of skincare – particularly when it comes to traditional (read: inflated) pricing.

BACKSTORY:

Onekind is the brainchild of brother-sister duo Matthew and Madison Ruggieri who – along with their business partner, actor Darren Criss – have been players in the men’s grooming category for close to a decade. Now they have taken all they know about fair pricing and top shelf ingredients to create this clean, accessible new brand which is “Every bit as luxe as le crème, but at a much fairer price.”

Onekind was originally designed to tackle the pink tax (products marketed at women are priced much higher than similar formulations aimed at men) but Onekind is unisex – ingredients are ingredients/skin is skin after all – and Darren uses the products every night in his skincare routine. Onekind is the brainchild of brother-sister duo Madison and Matthew Ruggieri who founded the popular men’s grooming site The Motley as well as their own successful brands, Buckler’s and Port Products.

During this time, they learned a lot of good and bad things about the beauty industry including how unnecessarily marked up products for women can be (for example, they had experts tell them to price their men’s products lower “as men won’t pay enough as women”). This infuriated Madison but  she just looked in her own medicine cabinet and knew she was being ripped off…just for buying skincare marketed towards women.

Their debut products for nighttime are heavenly – Dream Cream Moisturizer ($38) and Midnight Magic Serum ($42) –

We are loving them both!!!
