COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS ANNUAL CELEBRATION

May 2, 2018

Last night CISLA celebrated 11 years in Los Angeles and honored 3 Angelenos who have dedicated themselves professionally or through their personal philanthropy to supporting the youth of Los Angeles. I especially connect to this as I work with kids in South Central ( and soon to be teaching in Juvenile Hall – CANNOT WAIT!!!). My dear friend Ashlee Margolis gave the most breathtaking speech and if there was ever someone to WANT TO BE, it’s Ashlee. Incredible event for amazing cause, helmed by wonderful people. More of this please – everywhere. More of what we need in this town.

I’ve been a Paperless Post user for years. And they only get better. I am actually overwhelmed by how great the designs are, so much, that I decided to forgo using my original art work and just use theirs. Yes, it’s aesthetically approved on so many levels! They do design partnerships with so many incredible designers…you simply will fall in love.

Venice Family Clinic’s Art Walk & Auctions Launches 39th Season with Three World-Renowned Artists: Alexis Smith, Sam Durant and Ed Moses

May 1, 2018

Venice Family Clinic (www.venicefamilyclinic.com) presents its iconic 39th Venice Family Clinic’s Art Walk & Auctions on Sunday, May 20, from noon to 6 p.m. at Google’s Venice Headquarters. Both the biggest art walk in Southern California and the largest public event held by the tech giant, the space will be transformed into an art gallery for the occasion, where guests can enjoy free access to the work of 250 contemporary artists, including such luminaries as John Baldessari, Ed Ruscha and Alison Saar as well as LA’s emerging talent—all with the goal of exceeding the $800,000 raised last year and supporting the Clinic’s mission to provide quality health care to those in need.

This year’s event honors three world-renowned Venice-based artists: signature artist Alexis Smith, an LA-based collage and installation artist, who has exhibited extensively from the Whitney to MOCA; along with honorees Sam Durant, known for his social artwork and who has a strong personal connection, having once been a beneficiary of the services himself; and Ed Moses, one of the City’s most experimental artists and a former honoree, posthumously. Durant has created a limited-edition piece appropriately titled “Everyone Deserves Healthcare,” which he describes as embodying the spirit of everything Venice Family Clinic does.

The fundraiser features exhibitions as well as a silent auction along with engaging community activations from live art exhibits curated by artist Bert Rodriguez to guided art workshops taught by local artisans, live music and craft beer & wine garden along with a bevy of food trucks, dog daycare and bike valet. The musical lineup includes Parker Ainsworth, Dervish, Lacey Cowden, Jonny Boy, DANKE and Foxtrails, all playing 45-minute sets beginning at noon. For a $50 donation, guests enjoy special access to dozens of artists’ studios. View a select number of works and bid early on paddle8.com/auction/venice-family-clinic starting May 8th.

Hotel Erwin is offering Walk the (Venice) Art Walk package, encouraging art lovers to ditch their cars for an art-caytion at the beach that weekend. For information on the event, visit https://theveniceartwalk.org

The Only Gift I Recommend For Mother’s Day – Unlimited Singing Bowls

April 26, 2018

A gift of gratitude for the present of
your mother’s presence.

I have been going into a deep sound healing phase, y’all. It all started with my first soundbath a few years ago with Jamie. I’ve pretty much been an addict ever since. I just bought my first crystal bowl and when I saw this gorgeous site, Unlimited Singing Bowls – I fell in love with this idea for Mother’s Day gifts this year. A curated box of specialness (perfectly priced too, $119, way less than a fancy dinner).
These thoughtfully curated boxes of healing goodies, culminating in a glorious Tibetan healing bowl say I FREAKING LOVE WORSHIP AND ADORE YOU!!!!
You can also curate your own, but these are so artfully put together, all you have to do is press ADD TO CART, if you ask me.
Oh, and don’t let it only be about Mother’s Day. These are literally the perfect gift for ANY prezzie. And dad’s too of course.
A sample box contains goodies like this:
The Awareness Singing Bowl Set features the 5.5″ Moksha Singing Bowl, a mallet, Amethyst Crystal, Fill Your Cup Self-Nurture Tincture from Arise Botanicals, Japanese Cypress Incense, Lavender Soap from Feya, and instructions for the enjoyment of all these treats of the senses.

The Moksha Singing Bowl contains the image of a seated Buddha surrounded by the Om mantra. Moksha is the end of the death and rebirth cycle and the transcendence of struggle. The bowl rings a clear tone with high and low registers.

Amethyst: A stone of purifying clarity, prosperity and protection. Amethyst clears the way for wisdom to come through for protection and connection to the divine.

Arise Botanicals Fill Your Cup Self-Nurture Tincture: Taste the sweet plant medicine on your tongue. Let it move through your body and notice the Divine Feminine surrounding you.

Japanese Cypress Incense: Watch the smoke rise and drift. Be present in the scent of the cypress.

Feya Lavender Soap: Feel the water on your skin, smell soothing lavender scent, slide your hands over the bar and watch the bubbles rise and clean.

Learn more about the creation of these boxes of sound and delight in our Mother’s Day Curated Gift Boxes Blog.
