THE LIST: DR. GRANT STEVENS | MARINA PLASTIC SURGERY

March 3, 2018

We are excited to roll out THE LIST for 2018.  What better a way to launch the year than by featuring Grant Stevens, MD, FACS, board certified plastic surgeon and founder of Marina Plastic Surgery in Marina del Rey, CA.

Dr. Stevens is the Chairman of the USC-Marina Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship and the Director of the USC Division of Aesthetic Surgery. He is a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the USC Keck School of Medicine, Division of Plastic Surgery. He is a board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons. Dr. Stevens is also president-elect of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

What is also exciting is that his practice is the first in the U.S. to offer Geneveve™ by Viveve®, the single-session, 30-minute, in-office treatment for women with vaginal laxity that incorporates patented radiofrequency energy to stimulate and generate collagen.

“We are excited to be the first to introduce Geneveve to our clients,” Dr. Stevens said. “Geneveve treats vaginal laxity, which results from over stretching the vaginal introital (opening) during childbirth. As a result of this tissue damage, women can experience a decrease in sexual satisfaction and physical sensation during intercourse, which can adversely impact sexual health and quality of life.” He added that just like procedures that stimulate collagen to make the face and body more youthful, Genevieve uses collagen stimulation to shrink vaginal tissue achieving previous tightness.

During vaginal childbirth or sexual activity over a period of time, these tissues can over-stretch, leaving the patient with a feeling of looseness, especially around the vaginal opening. The loss of tightness eventually leads to a diminished sexual sensation and satisfaction during intercourse.

“Geneveve is a perfect complement to our mommy makeover procedure, allowing women to experience a return to their pre-pregnancy days of vibrancy, lubrication and tightness,” said Dr. Stevens. He added that in a sexual satisfaction survey of women who had undergone the Geneveve treatment after experiencing vaginal deliveries, 67% of the women reported an increase in vaginal tightness at 30 days and 87% at six months after the treatment. While vaginal rejuvenation surgery is right for some patients, many more just need a simple non-surgical out-patient treatment that requires no anesthesia.

Clean, Vegan, Cruelty, Chemical Free Skincare and Makeup For Tweens And Teens

February 7, 2018

I’m still having severe postpartum. That being said, I’m the mom of an 11 year old.

PARENTING A TWEEN IS UTTER HELL.

Hell I tell you.

Everything in life, to Aria, is miserable. There is Shitty School, a Changing Body and hormones, and now…drumroll…tween skin to deal with.

There are a few things that make Aria happy, and they are: slime, Bob’s Burgers, when I am shutting the F up, cute packaging and cool stuff.

When I heard about C’est Moi, a new clean beauty brand thoughtfully formulated for tweens and teens, I thought SCORE SCORE SCORE, this will not only keep Aria happy for a good while but it’ll also score me some major mommy points.

The ADORABLE line features 38 products across skincare and color cosmetics priced from $8 for an eyeliner pencil to $26 for a three-piece skincare set, the entire collection just launched on Target.com and CestMoi.com.

( Oh, I am in totally in love with their brand video !)

I could just see Aria in this photo because YES, she literally jumped for joy when her package arrived.

Firs of all – SHE IS WASHING HER FACE! And, I mean – with care. WHY? Because she loves that they cute tubes are just for her!! It’s totally shocking.

She is a bit young for make up – but the glosses are lovely. The fact that the line is gentle, chemical free, cruelty free and not filled with crap, of course is the greatest selling point for me.  But really, just getting Aria to care for her skin, is something that cannot happen soon enough.

Oh – and guess what – I AM SO INTO IT ALL FOR MYSELF. It brings back memories of Love’s Baby Soft and my first forays into make up (Elizabeth Arden turquoise 80s eyeliner, Clinique and Tatiana perfume anyone?).

The make up is clean, fresh and totally great enough to covet. So now, it’s me stealing stuff from Aria – and not the other way around. A win win, I  say!

Is Xeomin Better Than Botox?

January 3, 2018

It’s 2018. Another year, another wrinkle. OY.

Maybe you’ve built up a sensitivity to Botox? Maybe you’re a dude and feel funky about getting Botox, but wouldn’t mind trying a ‘natural facial muscle relaxer’ – so to speak.

Welp, more and more people are checking out Xeomin.

So, what’s XEOMIN®?

Well, like Botox, it’s a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults for a short period of time (temporary).  In other words, it takes those awful “11’s” away.

The main difference between Xeomin and Botox is that Xeomin contains just one ingredient: botulinum toxin A.

Xeomin is the only one of the three (Xeomin, Botox and Dysport) injectables that does not need to be refrigerated before use, due to its lack of additives. Xeomin is a “naked injectable,” meaning that it does not contain any additives.

A benefit of a pure-form injectable is that the human body is less likely to become resistant to it. Some patients have developed antibodies to Botox which means…it no longer works!

This is a great way to go for dudes (something about it seems more natural and it’s often marketed like that) and for first timers who are Botox curious.

XEOMIN® is available only through licensed physicians like:

Johnny Wright,The Man Behind Michelle Obama’s Gorgeous Locks Rocks My Hair at Salon Kazumi

December 23, 2017

Celebrity Hairstylist Johnny Wright
Joins Salon Kazumi in Beverly Hills

Johnny Wright, renowned artist who was personal stylist to First Lady Michelle Obama over two terms JUST CUT MY HAIR!!!

And it’s the best cut I have had in years. YEARS. And, Johnny is now my official go-to-rec from Groomed LA. So, if you ask me who to go to cut your hair, I will send you to Johnny.

Salon Kazumi lucky to have landed this celebrated hairstylist and educator.  Of course, Johnny is renowned for his work with First Lady Michelle Obama and lucky us, he has returned to the west coast after almost a decade of being based in Washington D.C. as her personal hair hairstylist.

In 2002, Wright began working with L’Oreal where he stayed for 16 years, moving from technical consultant and platform artist to lead educator and on to artistic style director.  In 2007, Wright moved to Los Angeles to work at the esteemed Frédéric Fekkai salon, and to pursue a styling career in television and film.

It was an earlier event in 2007 that caused Wright’s career to truly become a part of history.

President Obama had just announced his campaign, and an opportunity arose for Wright to style First Lady Michelle Obama for an Essence photo-shoot.  They hit it off, and as she traveled to Los Angeles for television appearances, Wright continued to style her. After creating her look for the Democratic National Convention in 2008 and a Vogue cover-shoot in 2009, the First Lady asked Wright to move to D.C. to be her personal hairstylist.   Wright maintained this role through both terms and traveled with the First Family to over 40 countries around the globe.

Wright’s work has appeared in major national and international publications including Glamour, Essence, Vogue Italia, Ebony, Time, InStyle, Parade, and People, among many, many others.  From politicians to celebrities, Wright’s client list includes Queen Latifah, Kerry Washington, Maxine Waters, Samira Wiley, Tamron Hall, Regina King, Karrueche Tran, Reese Witherspoon, Vivica A. Fox, Yvette Nicole Brown, Sherri Shepherd, Naturi Naughton, Vanessa Williams, Lauren London, LisaRaye, Janelle Monáe, Syleena Johnson, Shaun Robinson, and Candace Bushnell.

Salon owner Kazumi Morton and Wright bonded over their mutual commitment to education and encouraging young talent.  Kazumi explains, “Johnny is an amazing stylist and I am so happy he is joining our close family of talented artists.  His ability to work with all types and textures of hair, combined with his warm personality and winning-manner, makes him a perfect fit for Salon Kazumi.”

Wright adds, “What attracted me to Salon Kazumi was, in addition to the intimate setting and Kazumi’s positive and supportive attitude, was the true sense of kinship that I found there.  There is a real exchange of creative energy between the stylists and colorists at the salon and I know my clients will feel as equally comfortable and at home.”
