Three Stylish Gadgets to Customize Your Sports Equipment

February 6, 2018

Whether you compete in sport as an individual or as a member of team, it’s important to be able to express your sense of individuality whenever you can. The benefits of this go far beyond simply looking a little different – customizing your equipment lets you choose the components that best suit your style of play, allowing you to reach peak performance with ease.

New technology such as 3D printing means such customization is now more widely available and more stylish than ever, allowing you to combine looking good with reaching your personal best for the ultimate in sporting success.

Custom clothing

Olympic champions rarely buy their gear off the shelf – instead, they have it custom made. There was a time when such luxuries were only available to the sporting elite, but the falling cost of 3D scanning and modelling technology mean that it is now possible for ordinary consumers to purchase shoes, clothes and other items that fit them like a second skin.

Major sports brands such as Under Armour, Nike and Adidas are all getting in on the trend and give their customers the chance to alter the design of shoes to create unique editions of their favorites. The company is also proving consumers with the chance to include even more advanced gadgets in their products, such as running shoes with optical sensors that allow information about stride length, speed and other data to be connected to a smart phone. One such smart shoe was worn by golfer Jordan Spieth during the U.S. Open in 2016.

Wicked wheels

Heavy customization has long been a part of the world of skateboarding, inline skating and freestyle scootering, along with BMX freestyling. The emphasis here isn’t just on bright colors and outrageous designs, it is also about being practical.

This means that if you want your freestyle scooter to stand out from the crowd and make you look like the professional rider that you are, look to customize it with some of the best accessories around. Hailing from down under, Longway Scooters develop parts for some of the top pro riders in the world. Not only do their wheels look amazing, but they also perform brilliantly and are extremely lightweight, making it easy to do bigger and more extreme tricks. You can find a wide range of Longway products at the Skates website.

Fits like a glove

Lacrosse is famously one of the most expensive sports around with the families of those who take it up likely to spend more than $17,000 each year, according to a study conducted by Utah State University. With that sort of money being spent, it is important to ensure that any equipment purchased fits as well as possible; one company is allowing that to happen.

Epoch Lacrosse recently launched Bespoke, an online gadget tool that allows players to customize their gloves and arm pads, choosing from different parts and a range of colors and textures. The system also makes it easy to collaborate, so that friends and teammates can share the overall design.

Is Xeomin Better Than Botox?

January 3, 2018

It’s 2018. Another year, another wrinkle. OY.

Maybe you’ve built up a sensitivity to Botox? Maybe you’re a dude and feel funky about getting Botox, but wouldn’t mind trying a ‘natural facial muscle relaxer’ – so to speak.

Welp, more and more people are checking out Xeomin.

So, what’s XEOMIN®?

Well, like Botox, it’s a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults for a short period of time (temporary).  In other words, it takes those awful “11’s” away.

The main difference between Xeomin and Botox is that Xeomin contains just one ingredient: botulinum toxin A.

Xeomin is the only one of the three (Xeomin, Botox and Dysport) injectables that does not need to be refrigerated before use, due to its lack of additives. Xeomin is a “naked injectable,” meaning that it does not contain any additives.

A benefit of a pure-form injectable is that the human body is less likely to become resistant to it. Some patients have developed antibodies to Botox which means…it no longer works!

This is a great way to go for dudes (something about it seems more natural and it’s often marketed like that) and for first timers who are Botox curious.

XEOMIN® is available only through licensed physicians like:

Johnny Wright,The Man Behind Michelle Obama’s Gorgeous Locks Rocks My Hair at Salon Kazumi

December 23, 2017

Celebrity Hairstylist Johnny Wright
Joins Salon Kazumi in Beverly Hills

Johnny Wright, renowned artist who was personal stylist to First Lady Michelle Obama over two terms JUST CUT MY HAIR!!!

And it’s the best cut I have had in years. YEARS. And, Johnny is now my official go-to-rec from Groomed LA. So, if you ask me who to go to cut your hair, I will send you to Johnny.

Salon Kazumi lucky to have landed this celebrated hairstylist and educator.  Of course, Johnny is renowned for his work with First Lady Michelle Obama and lucky us, he has returned to the west coast after almost a decade of being based in Washington D.C. as her personal hair hairstylist.

In 2002, Wright began working with L’Oreal where he stayed for 16 years, moving from technical consultant and platform artist to lead educator and on to artistic style director.  In 2007, Wright moved to Los Angeles to work at the esteemed Frédéric Fekkai salon, and to pursue a styling career in television and film.

It was an earlier event in 2007 that caused Wright’s career to truly become a part of history.

President Obama had just announced his campaign, and an opportunity arose for Wright to style First Lady Michelle Obama for an Essence photo-shoot.  They hit it off, and as she traveled to Los Angeles for television appearances, Wright continued to style her. After creating her look for the Democratic National Convention in 2008 and a Vogue cover-shoot in 2009, the First Lady asked Wright to move to D.C. to be her personal hairstylist.   Wright maintained this role through both terms and traveled with the First Family to over 40 countries around the globe.

Wright’s work has appeared in major national and international publications including Glamour, Essence, Vogue Italia, Ebony, Time, InStyle, Parade, and People, among many, many others.  From politicians to celebrities, Wright’s client list includes Queen Latifah, Kerry Washington, Maxine Waters, Samira Wiley, Tamron Hall, Regina King, Karrueche Tran, Reese Witherspoon, Vivica A. Fox, Yvette Nicole Brown, Sherri Shepherd, Naturi Naughton, Vanessa Williams, Lauren London, LisaRaye, Janelle Monáe, Syleena Johnson, Shaun Robinson, and Candace Bushnell.

Salon owner Kazumi Morton and Wright bonded over their mutual commitment to education and encouraging young talent.  Kazumi explains, “Johnny is an amazing stylist and I am so happy he is joining our close family of talented artists.  His ability to work with all types and textures of hair, combined with his warm personality and winning-manner, makes him a perfect fit for Salon Kazumi.”

Wright adds, “What attracted me to Salon Kazumi was, in addition to the intimate setting and Kazumi’s positive and supportive attitude, was the true sense of kinship that I found there.  There is a real exchange of creative energy between the stylists and colorists at the salon and I know my clients will feel as equally comfortable and at home.”
