RODIAL – Nature – Science – Skincare

September 9, 2010

Could I really be in LOVE with…a cleansing wipe??  Not to mention, everything else I've sampled from the UK line, RODIALUh, yes, my pretties, yes.

First the RODIAL GLAM WIPES ($19) wipes – 25 in a package, the sexiest swanky signature silver packaging ever – are divine pick me ups after a workout, or just for the heck of it ANYTIME, cuz they feel so beyond GOOD wiping up the muck on my L.A. smog infested face.  Sure, they're natural, paraben-free, with bisabolol, Vitamin E, provitamin B5 and maybe it's the chamomile extracts that are so intoxicating…whatever it is, I"m hooked.

The cleanser ($59) feels like butter.  IN love.

And the piece de resistance (did I spell that even remotely right?) is the GLAMTOX SPF 18 ($125), infused with micro-injected hyaluronic acid, it promises this in your daily SPF moisturizer:

  • Instant wrinkle filler
  • Muscle freezer
  • Eye cream

I've just begun to test it, and it does feel tightening. OK, not sure about the 'literal freezing' of muscles. Nevertheless, it's been my go-to for the past two weeks.  Smells and feels yumm…

Heres' a hit about the company:

Background
Rodial Skincare was developed out of the need for products that effectively treated major skin care dilemmas without causing harm to the skin or body. The products combine clinical testing and the most up-to-date scientific advancements with the best ingredients nature has to offer.

Gotta kid who needs some grooming? Kids haircuts are actually FUN at YELLOW BALLOON

September 4, 2010

It was time.  After all, my daughter is four and a half and the only time I cut her hair was to get some mysterious sticky material out of it when she was around 2.  It was a disaster.  Disheveled, uneven, un-tamable. Not to mention the texture had gone haywire from all the odd lengths – straight on top, curly on the bottom (?!).  We were in dire need of professional help.

Seeing as Aria doesn't like me to even touch her hair without a lot of coaxing (bribing), I could not envision this fantasy professional cut ever happening.

And then we found THE YELLOW BALLOON.  A family owned biz in it's 25th year of making children far and wide (it's in the Valley and peeps in my hood over the hill told me it's the only place to go) look presentable all the while having a blast doing so.

Aria was greeted with candy and toys (hey, whatever it takes) and every girly princess thing imaginable. Watch out feminist moms, your daughter will be shedding sparkles and glitter more than a pageant kid for days, but who cares – they got the job done.  And seeing that for Aria sparkles and glitter make the world go round, it was one of her most fun days of the summer.  I was in shock as my squirmy-get-your-hands-off-my-hair kid sat there dutifully, nary a tear on cheek, as Sabrina performed her magic on her nappy head. Aria in turn fake blow dried a giant Barbie head on her lap while inhaling Twizzlers.  'Twas a vision to behold.

And there are several awesome deals.  A Baby's First Haircut thing that saves a lock, takes a photo and all that kind of stuff.  Another one where mom's can get their roots done for free if you buy your kid a haircut. Etc.

The place is jam packed with fun stuff to keep your kiddies movin' and groovin' and in the mood.  It's like Willy Wonka for haircuts.

We got a hole punch card where you buy a bunch of cuts and get one free.  Like my Angelina Yogurt card!

Oh, and of course, we came home with a big yellow balloon.

Bat your eyes at Alison Engel – GROOMED L.A.’s newest Contributing Beauty Editor!

September 1, 2010

Here's a bit about Alison…

I’ve had an innate passion for two things from childhood – movies and product. (Well, if I’m being honest I’d have to add food to that list.)  I now make my living as a film and television producer, and lately, when I close my eyes and dream at night it’s not images of sugarplums that dance through my head, but of products I might invent and sell on QVC.

As a child, while the other kids played in the sandbox at the playground, I sat on a bench with my Mom’s best friend Marie. On a typical day Marie was in an Yves Saint Laurent pantsuit and I wore a Florence Eiseman matching top and knit pants.  I’d try on Marie’s jewelry and investigate the contents of her fabulous Gucci bag while she discussed with me the fundamental rules of chic. So began my style and grooming education. My reverence for all things style continued and I became an unofficial consigliore as friends sought advice on products and procedures and doctors and technicians. Long before the Internet and blogs, my clipping files filled with categorized information on products, services, design, art, restaurants, and all earthly delights were legendary reference tools for friends and family.

Of course, as I’ve gotten older, my interest in product has increasingly focused on anti-aging remedies.  How fortunate that I live in Los Angeles where the quest for eternal youth is not only socially sanctioned, it is practically a religion. The bottom line – I’m infinitely curious and a crack investigator.  Whether it’s finding the right lipstick or the meaning of life, I relish the mission.  I’m excited to share what I learn with the readers of Groomed LA.
