you've seen them before but feather extensions are not going away.
they're just getting more fun and creative!
KRYSTAL RIDDLE at FREG SEGAL SALON is doing what she calls tipping.
making them piecey and on the ends, sometimes doubling them up, two on one braided strand.
i've been wanting them for a while, but by the time i found the right person to do it, they started to feel a bit played out.
but now I can embrace my inner-steve-tyler
because Krystal has revitalized the look at is taking it to the next level (see below!)
and for $45 for 5 feathers, and in no time, it's a no-brainer, easy on the hair way to add a little bo-ho-summer's just around the corner-fun to your look.
they can last 1 to 3 months, can be washed, curled, whatevs.
they're simply clamped onto the end of a braid. it's that simple!
and doesn't hurt your hair at all.
( i love the contrast of my preppy grey turtleneck and hippie feather-y look)
of course you can go ANY color you want! natural, hot pink, peacock, etc.
here are some other looks Kirstal has rocked out:
Krystal envisioned extensions that are personalized and distinctive. Her approach is about versatility and creativity—the sky is the limit. Clients can opt for a casual and playful look, or do something subtle and chic. They can request a streak of long feathers, smaller feathers spaced along one strand of hair, short feathers attached to just the hair ends, or any other way imaginable. Krystal said she’s frequently asked to do the custom extensions, and predicts that this is just the tip of the iceberg: “I think people are definitely going to start doing more fun, imaginative things with their hair.”
Feathers clipped into the hair were popular additions to 70’s getups, but today a longer-lasting extension using one or two rooster tail feathers, left naturally colored or brightly died, are the norm. Celebs like Jennifer Love Hewitt, Hillary Duff, and even Steven Tyler have be-feathered themselves and inspired countless others to do the same. The skyrocketing demand for fashion feathers has even made it hard to find certain kinds.
Instead of churning out the same look on every head, Fred Segal Salon uses a mix of colors and feathers from a variety of birds, including rooster, guinea, pheasant, and ostrich. Peacock feathers, while a bit high-maintenance, are a great option for a special occasion or big night on the town. Clients can even bring in their own feathers, supplied by an art store of from their own Polly. Krystal encourages clients to get involved with the combination and positioning of the feathers before they’re expertly applied. The extensions last one to three months and can be washed, blow-dried and even curled just like the rest of the hair.
Feather hair extensions range from $30 for a single custom feather to $45 for a handful, but prices will vary depending on the number and types of feathers used.
