December 9, 2012

The Broot  :: Adorable beauty venue situated at 1626 Montana Ave.  Equipped with a treatment menu of ingredients ranging from egg, honey, avocado and more.  Apply heat , rinse and revel in your shiny locks.

A new beauty concept specializing in natural hair beautifying treatments (think: avocado, egg, mayonnaise) on lovely Montana Ave.
Entering,  I was immediately greeted by the super sweet staff.  Shortly thereafter directed to their wall/menu describing the various ingredients (and their stealth beauty powers).  My stylist, Sabrina (Blow Out QUEEN ) saw that my hair was fine and suggested avocado, honey and banana.  Shaking her head she said “mayo and egg may will just weigh your hair down”.
Off to the wash basins we went, Sabrina applied the home made mix, then wrapped my wet tresses up and placed me under heat for 15.  Sabrina rinsed me and gave me one of the best blowouts.  Ever.  In and out in under an hour.
The space is charming.  Moss green ceiling,  minimal yet modernish furnishings.  If cute dressed up as a beauty bar this very well might be it.
The second beauty child of Bellacures founder and entrepreneur whiz woman Samira Asemanfar, The Broot has one location currently.  They're open from 9:00 am -9:00 pm 7 days a week.  Sabrina said “you’d be surprised, some girls come in at night, get the mask and then head home.”
One demographic seems to rule here:  affluent Westside Moms and their tots.
Let’s face it this is a luxury treatment.  Albeit an affordable luxury ($35 for hair masque w/ wet hair braided, add $25 for a blowout).  I also noticed a pair of friends celebrating one of their birthdays.  Looked like they were getting the treatment then off to dinner.

Oh and back to that blowout.  Sabrina.  She’s phenomenal.  A blow dry maven.  My hair looked and felt fab after she was done.
Bottom line: a fun idea from time to time.  My hair felt great afterwards and the treatment is affordable enough I would consider adding to my monthly beauty lineup.

The Broot’s “Strength & Shine” All-Natural Hair Recipe

1/2 Banana
1 Egg
1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1 Tablespoon Jojoboa Oil
2 Tablespoon of Honey
2oz. h20

How to blend:

We recommend using a food processor:

Toss in the banana
Pour in 1 oz. of water
Begin to blend for 45 secs.
Add remaining 1oz. of water
Blend again
Add Egg, oils, and honey
Blend for 1.5 min to ensure that there are no chunks left
When you pour into your bowl or bottle, use a strainer to get all the banana pieces out – otherwise it make sit harder to wash out of your hair
