Strollin’ the hood with le bebe and stumbled into the Harry and David pop-up store on Robertson…

November 19, 2010

Can you say "this aint your mama's gift basket catalogue" anymore?

After  hording sampling their (um, sorry… waxy?) chocolates and texting the hubby to see what flavor Moose Munch (ya know that insane choc-candy-caramelly covered popcorn stoner-food extravaganzzz) he liked (none, damn, no excuse to buy it) I texted myself to remember to do some investigating about this grandma-catalogue-gone-wild when I got home.

Harry and David – home of the infamous perfect pear and those gift baskets that you always wondered "who on earth buys those?" just got hip, (espesh with a Harrison and Shriftman hosted opening party).

My online stalking led me to THE DAILY TRUFFLE (love!) who did a full on expose of said opening.   Not to mention they got down and dirty with their food samplings. There's a serious retro-chic thing going on with this place and I'm diggin' the food offerings big time for their down-home-realness and lack of pomp.

Read on (below!) what these adorable kids had to say about le menu cuz to tell you the truth, all weekend with two ragamuffins, an outta town hubby and no sitter has got this blogista ready….for….bed….

Harry and David is well known to your parents for being the mail order giant for all things seasonal including holiday gift baskets, fresh soups, cured meats and their infamous pears but now the adorable farm fresh store with a chic twist has come to rest at one of our favorite L.A. shopping grounds.

Nestled on Robertson, until January 1st, 2010, directly across the street from The Ivy, Harry and David will be there to help you with all your holiday needs …

1. Need some candy for Halloweenbut want to try something healthy? Check out their enouirmous array of chocoalte covered pretzles and nuts and fruits snacks – just buy a few bags and individually wrap a handful in cellophane. Keep a few bags nearby so the parents know where it came from!

2. It’s coooooold outside! Never fear! Harry and David has ready to go soups that come with separately wrapped packages of spice inside! I bought the Tortilla, Chicken Noodle and Fajita Chili!

3. I am not one to say this lightly but Harry and David has a special brand of pear – a lovers food by the way – that so hardcore they come in their own individual packages. I want to live in a world where pears get VIP treatment.

4. Hey entertainment industry! Before you drive your assistants crazy this year with gift baskets, but no alcohol for Mel Gibson, macrobiotic-friendly for Madonna, no meat for Scarlett Johnasson and nothing too religious looking for Tom and Katie … have a look at these build-it-yourself gift baskets that can include pears, apples, pretzel snacks, candied walnuts, and prosciutto and red wine if you choose.

5. This is also the perfect place to stop in a pick up a gift en route to a party … They have wine, cheese, brie, etc.!

Harrison + Shriftman has a petite soirée to launch the next 3 months of amazing and I stopped in to stock up and took a few pics, including the adorable son of publicist Lara Shriftman who made a special cameo!!
