As I desperately cling to the last few weeks of summer, I
find myself revisiting one of my FAVORITE summer product lines of all time.
KAI. For the very last few of you who are not familiar with Malibu-based
company, listen up. It’s pure. It’s simple. It’s summer in a bottle.

The entire line of light and soothing jasmine scented
fragrance, bath and skincare, is the perfect ending to summer’s grand finale.  At least so says kai’s celebrity devotees like Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts,
Charlize Theron, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner, Naomi Watts and countless
others.  My personal favorites are the kai body glow, kai body butter and the
intoxicating kai skylight candle, which is an absolute must for
anyone who wants to eternalize summer.

CALLING ALL DUDES. THE COOLEST BARBER SHOP IN TOWN. “THE PROPER”

GUYS: Looking for a throw back barbershop devoted to classic barbering and a good old fashion shave? 

THE PROPER BARBERSHOP is just the place.  It has a post-mod twist and is a nod to the vintage barbershops of yesteryear.

 Vinnie and Trent, the owners of this awesome new joint on West Third street, are classically trained (Vidal Sassoon, Chris McMillan, Robert Cromeans) having put in their time from Bev Hills salons to Rudys and the like before coming together to launch their shared vision of classic barbering, precision cuts and straight razor shaves. The barbers at The Proper may have mad style, tatted and pierced from head to toe, but this joint is all about substance and reviving the classic form of the man's haircut right down to the boy's club experience.

I took my hubby there for a trim and his first ever straight blade shave.  The whole thing was a total revelation for him.  They took such excellent care of him, from the attention to every hair on his head, to the hot rags and application of skin-soothing facial products (Kiehls, etc.) after a ridic precision shave, he's never going back to his old ways of getting a hair cut (uh, stopping in for a lopsided cut at Floyd's).

Looking for an original late afternoon way to catch up with a buddy?  Get groomed at The Proper over a cigar and a beer.  It's a total boys club (couldn't have been more ironic that I was nursing my new baby while chatting with the awesome crew there).  

These guys are so passionate about what they're doing, you know you're in great hands.  There is non-stop flowin with regulars and newbies…One guy had heard about it on Twitter.  How's that for retro meets mod?

Hubby looked and felt so phenom afterward, he got on the horn and called all his boys about it.

CALI CLOTHING – MY NEW FAVE CARDIGAN WRAP TOP – PERFECTO!

I so badly needed a sexy, wrappy, white, long-sleeve top kinda thing…something to throw on over a tank and cover my expanded post preggo butt without looking matronly.  

FOUND IT!

THE. PERFECT. WRAP. TOP.

CALI CLOTHING made right here in L.A., makes the PERFECT, double layered (lined with yummy thermal) throw-over-anything cardigan.

It's stretchy and cozy but what I love about it most is the shaping in the back. It's cinched just a bit to give your bod some shape – so it's not just an amorphous over sized piece of material like so many of these wrap tops in this shape.

It's non-pill rayon (feels like cotton though) and comes in a bunch of great washy colors.

GROOMED L.A.’S BEST HOME WORKOUT DVD’S – PHYSIQUE 57

It's a no brainer, trying to (find the time to) get back in shape with a new baby is HARRDD!  

Tired.  No time (said that).  Unmotivated.  Etc.

Why not pop in a DVD and grab a quick workout while le bebe's in a swing?  Having been a group exercise teacher for over 20 years this is a sticky subject for me.  I am PICKY!  And I know what's up.  I am tough on anything workout related let alone a DVD. If it's too easy I get all crazy.  If it's corny, I lose my mind.  If the music sucks, I'll shut it off.

First up in my DVD picks is PHYSIQUE 57.  The 57 Minute Full Body Workout is perfect for a new mom or anyone looking for a solid full body workout that's a hybrid barre, ball, Lotte Burke meets Pilate's thang. Challenging core work.  Easy on the stuff: all you need is a basic playground ball, a mat and a set of light weights.  Surprisingly, the music ain't bad.  To be honest, on the 57 minute workout some of the coaching, uh, tickles me ("Do you have a license for those guns?!" ) but I'm getting past it because the WORKOUT – the important part – is solid. The method's creator, who's doing most of the uber-enthusiastic teaching, Tanya Becker, was extensively trained by Lotte Burke herself and taught her technique for over ten years before developing this one on her own so I do have to give her mad entrepreneur props.  I really like Shelly Night's teaching groove and her ARM AND AB 30 MIN WORKOUT is cool.  

Overall, this work makes my list as a very solid DVD for easing back into connecting with your post-partum body – you can follow the moderated version to get going and then continue on with the more challenging level by watching the advanced, kick ass Shelly do everything at the highest level.

Hooray!

Danielle, a former sun worshiper and tanning bed addict told me about her experience with malignant melanoma, all before 30 years old, which inspired her to create a safe way to get a gorgeous glow on – a very powerful story which scared the crap out of me about the sun.
