PLUSH BEAUTY BAR FOR MOMS. (You heard me) And right next to Whole Foods! Now that’s the kind of 2 for 1 a multi-tasking mom digs.

September 11, 2010

Ahh…. As a new mom, it doesn't get any better than the genius PLUSH BEAUTY BAR - a non-toxic nail and waxing salon for moms  - as in – bring your babies and toddlers – AND get that mani-pedi-Minx,Shellac, Brows, Brazilian and don't worry about a thing!  There are swings, a play area, toys, the works. Your kid will be in play-time heaven while you can finally take care of the grooming, we all know as a mom, is so hard to sneak in.

I'm not kidding, with a three month old this was like walking into a dream. I got a fab bikini wax, the first since pre-baby (btw, Jennifer gave me one of the most awesome Brazilian's ever… there were special waxes for different areas – yup, you know what I'm talking about – each part of the vag got it's own unique wax specific to the skin's delicate needs) and NEVER have I experienced this kind of detail. She is phenom, mom or no mom. Get a wax from her! And when AJ's paci popped out mid wax, Jennifer just popped it back in for me while I chilled.

Then I got my toes MINXED!!  Finally.  By the amazing Wenonah.  I love it!  I'll take a pic for you – they are awesome.  Silver and hot pink diagonal stripes. Very 80's punk meets disco. I'm reeling!

The prices are beyond competitive – a Minx full pedi is $60…Go try and find that somewhere.

Brazilian – $49.  Sweet.

My little boy had a blast. I had so much fun gabbing and RELAXING (finally) they almost had to kick me out. Seriously, this was what I call, a perfect Saturday.

And no one blinked when he took a huge crap and I changed a stinky diaper mid-pedi.

The place is small and cute and it's next to Whole Foods on Santa Monica Blvd and Fairfax.  So you can get groomed AND pick up dinner. How brill is that?

I'm going back for leg wax and Shellac nails as my treat for next week. šŸ™‚

Here's the story behind it:

Plush Beauty Bar for Moms took form after co-founder Kathryn Grady had a baby and began to feel like she was falling apart. In spite of having maternity time on her hands and a cooperative baby, there was nowhere she could easily go to even get a simple manicure or eyebrow wax.

ā€œI didn’t feel like children were welcome in most salons—plus I didn’t want to expose my baby to the harsh chemical fumes of acrylics and other nail products.ā€

She told her friend, Jennifer Paige, an Aveda-trained esthetician, about the quandary.

Jennifer said, "You're right. I see mothers juggling their children all the time, and there is never the space to accommodate them properly.  Let's open a business."

Thus Plush Beauty Bar for Moms was born. It features:

  • A children’s play area
  • Ample stroller parking
  • Bench seating so that babies and children can sit next to mom during treatments
  • Low-fume, low-toxic products and services –  no acrylics
  • Nail buffing option at no additional fee to eliminate polish drying time
  • Fast services to accommodate short attention spans—very few children have the patience to wait for mom to finish a two-hour mani/pedi.
  • Comfy armchairs for nursing
  • Roomy bathroom with changing table
  • Staff who accommodate breaks between or during appointments to tend to baby.
  • Juice, crackers, and diapers to assist with emergencies
  • Central location near Whole Foods, a dry cleaner, bakery, post office, Starbucks, and many other conveniences to allow for ease in errand-running
  • Parking at the shopping center and additional lots on Orange Grove (the street on the east side of the shopping center)
  • Hand-picked retail items—Plush doesn’t sell anything that its founders don’t LOVE and believe in.   Everything in the boutique has been tested and Plush-approved.

Let the VI PEELING begin!

September 10, 2010

Yay! I finally got around to my long awaited VI PEEL.  But wait here's the best part! I was given my peel by Mr. VI PEEL himself, Dr. Kalil, the doctor who invented it!

He was awesome and it was actually a blast – if you can call putting acid on your face a blast (uh, I can!) – because he took the opportunity to demonstrate how it's administered to some peeps in the offices here in Santa Monica. I got to learn about it from the inside and it really is a superior peel. It took just a few minutes and I was back in my car with what looked like a fresh little sunburn in no time.

VI PEEL has become infamous for it's minimal downtime and low-level ouch factor (felt fine! great even!) while revealing dramatic results in just a few days.  In about a week I should be shiny brand new, refreshed and revitalized with a bit less melasma, brown spots and unevenness.  Hooray!

Dare I post a pic of my post peel face to get this before and after thing going?

I tried, I did!  But I just can't handle posting pics of myself up here. I'm just not as brave as the mother of us all, Madame Nadine Jolie.

But here, you can check out beauty blogger to the Gods Nadine Jolie posting her progress here!

Nadine:

It’s been three days since I had my Vi Peel, and the phenol acid, vitamin C and Retin-A peel is working wonders…if by ā€œwondersā€ I were to actually mean ā€œis causing every last ounce of my skin to kamikaze dive off my face in unattractive, flaky sheets.ā€  Pictures of the disgusting-yet-effective madness to follow shortly!

I hope to get the courage like her to post my before and afters for you too, for now let Nadine inspire you!

RODIAL – Nature – Science – Skincare

September 9, 2010

Could I really be in LOVE with…a cleansing wipe??  Not to mention, everything else I've sampled from the UK line, RODIALUh, yes, my pretties, yes.

First the RODIAL GLAM WIPES ($19) wipes – 25 in a package, the sexiest swanky signature silver packaging ever – are divine pick me ups after a workout, or just for the heck of it ANYTIME, cuz they feel so beyond GOOD wiping up the muck on my L.A. smog infested face.  Sure, they're natural, paraben-free, with bisabolol, Vitamin E, provitamin B5 and maybe it's the chamomile extracts that are so intoxicating…whatever it is, I"m hooked.

The cleanser ($59) feels like butter.  IN love.

And the piece de resistance (did I spell that even remotely right?) is the GLAMTOX SPF 18 ($125), infused with micro-injected hyaluronic acid, it promises this in your daily SPF moisturizer:

  • Instant wrinkle filler
  • Muscle freezer
  • Eye cream

I've just begun to test it, and it does feel tightening. OK, not sure about the 'literal freezing' of muscles. Nevertheless, it's been my go-to for the past two weeks.  Smells and feels yumm…

Heres' a hit about the company:

Background
Rodial Skincare was developed out of the need for products that effectively treated major skin care dilemmas without causing harm to the skin or body. The products combine clinical testing and the most up-to-date scientific advancements with the best ingredients nature has to offer.

Science
The entire Rodial line is dermatologically tested and recommended by plastic surgeons and dermatologists in the UK. Rodial Skincare's key natural ingredient is Pomegranate Ellagic Tannin. It boosts collagen production and effectively firms the skin for a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles and dramatically lifted skin.

New from CELL CEUTICALS: PHOTO DEFENSE ANTI-AGING SKIN PROTECTOR WITH SPF 55

September 5, 2010

OOH!  I just received what just might be my fave product of the week!  And it's now in my top top top pick for sunblocks.

CellCeutical’s’ new PhotoDefense Anti-PhotoAging Daily Skin Protector SPF 55+/PA is a super light hydrating daily use formula for the face that, according to a company-issued press release, helps combat premature skin aging and reverse the signs of aging while providing broad spectrum protection against the sun’s harmful rays.

It feels amaazziingg going on. Not like any other sunblock I've ever tried.  SOOO light, almost weightless. The only problem is that my hubby has co-opted it. I keep putting a different brand out for him to use before he heads out for a run or to shoot hoops, one that I am not going to covet like this, but he's hooked on it.  I don't want to waste it on him!  What does he have to worry about anti-aging, etc?  Dudes just look better the older they get!

It's fortified with vitamin D, contains patent-pending Photoplex, a photostable complex said to combat both UVA and UVB radiation and quench both reactive oxidative species and advanced glycation end products. It's dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested, paraben-free, non-comedogenic, and non-irritating and contains no artificial color or fragrance or animal ingredients.
