ERNO LASZLO BLUE FIRMARINE SERUMS

September 17, 2010

Once again, my fave, ERNO LASZLO, has done it.

They just announced two amazing new products: Laszlo Blue Firmarine Lift Serum (1 oz. $225) and Laszlo Blue Firmarine Eye Therapy (0.5 oz  $90) Ok, hold up.

I gotta say, when I took these beauties out of the box I actually held them up like statues. Yup, it was as if I was holding an Emmy. They were that stunning. I dashed over to my hubby, who always appreciates a great design and he too oohed and ahhed. They are lookers.

But I digress. Those are just bottles people, not product. And that’s what counts. (Though I can’t say it enough, I am intoxicated by great design and packaging. Call me superficial. Whatevs.)

And I am also a serum junkie. If serum were Orero’s dunked in milk, I’d be obese. (Did that make sense? You get the point.)

These two sumptuous serums are an extension of the extremely popular Laszlo Blue line like the SPF 30 Cream or the Treatment Bar (I have this one, love it). The Blue line has some amazing capabilities. They’re enriched with the same naturally occurring Spirulina Maxima, a blue-green algae that firms the skin by feeding new collagen growth from within.

The Lift Serum provides the skin with vital nutrients to enhance cellular energy, hydration and firmness while the Eye Therapy instantly lifts, firms, and hydrates the delicate area around the eyes. This power duo of serums is a perfect one-two-zie: lightweight with easily absorbing properties. I’m gonna go serum nuts with these and see what happens.

DR. KRIS PRESSMAN – BIO IDENTICAL HORMONE THERAPY

September 16, 2010

I recently met with Dr. Kris Pressman to discuss BIO IDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY – an exciting, hot topic in the world of regenerative and restorative medicine. I have been fascinated by this subject for a while. It’s been creeping into conversations more and more these days and I’m learning that a lot of peeps are jumping on board with this natural course of treatment, both men and women young and old, to deal with low energy, inability to lose weight, menstrual irregularities, low libido, and many other physical challenges.

Bio-identicals are “natural” hormones (not the synthetic ones normally prescribed by doctors).  They are plant-derived (mostly from soy plants) and made into usable products (creams, capsules, etc.) in compounding pharmacies.

Dr. Pressman’s approach is to combine traditional Western medicines with the world of alternative medicine to achieve the best balance for her patients. She not only looks at hormone levels (primarily through blood tests) but also evaluates the patient’s need for any supplements (such as Vitamin D, Omega 3 etc).

Her speciality is Regenerative Medicine- in effect restoring hormone levels to a youthful balance and achieving a better quality of life!

I am very excited about getting this going and having Dr. Pressman put me on a program. I don’t even suffer from any of the above complaints but I am into restoring muscle tone and getting my hormones as youthful as possible.

I asked what we’ll do and she said, that during the initial consultation, all aspects of hormone replacement and the function of each hormone is explained in detail. After my comprehensive overview, I’ll be trained in the techniques of how to administer the therapy. I’ll be tested, supplemented, monitored and balanced for optimal benefits. Follow-up tests will be coordinated at a site convenient to me.

It seems that a balanced program of hormone replacement therapy might be the best health and life insurance you can buy!

I’m learning more about Hormones. First off they are not drugs. Hormones are natural substances which function as messengers to stimulate cells to heal, reproduce and rejuvenate. Disease and symptoms of aging occur when hormone levels decline.

Physical deterioration is not a requirement of growing older. Natural hormone supplementation can help your healthy aging.

It is possible to stop much of the undesirable aspects, symptoms and diseases associated with aging. Hormone Replacement Therapy is a state of the art science which has shown to prolong your life, plus improve the quality of your life. After a complete physical examination and laboratory evaluation a personalized hormone supplementation program is prescribed for you and then monitored by Dr. Pressman and her physicians, until the appropriate optimal hormone levels for you have been achieved.

Only natural hormones will be supplemented.  You will achieve all of the benefits of hormone replacement without the risks and side effects associated with synthetic hormones.

THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF THE HORMONES THAT WE WILL BE MEASURING AND MONITORING WHILE YOU ARE ON THE THERAPY.

DHEA (Dehydrepandrosterone)
By age 40, DHEA has declined markedly. Replacement results in immune enhancement, therefore making DHEA extremely important in cancer and infection prevention. DHEA is a precursor to the sex hormones and is therefore an important building block in the production of these hormones. DHEA helps the breakdown of fats and cholesterol, while reducing the formation of atherosclerotic plaques.

ESTROGEN
Replacement with natural estrogen protects against heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and osteoporosis in women. Estrogen prevents symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, temperature disregulation, mood swings, urogenital atrophy, decreased libido and depression. Estrogen lowers LDL cholesterol and raises HDL (the good cholesterol).

PROGESTERONE
Replacement with natural progesterone protects against uterine and breast cancer plus osteoporosis. Progesterone reduces symptoms of menopause. Progesterone occurs naturally with estrogen and should be prescribed concurrently to balance estrogen.

MELATONIN
This hormone is produced by the pineal gland and declines significantly by age 40. Melatonin controls circadium rhythm and sleep cycles. It induces sleep, improves quality of sleep and increases REM sleep and deep stage IV sleep. During this deep stage of sleep the immune system is stimulated. It has anti-cancer effects and modulates immune function by activating the cytokine system (lymphocytic function).

TESTOSTERONE
This hormone is necessary in both men and women and declines steadily after age 30. Testosterone is responsible for sustaining libido, muscle mass and immunity. It protects against heart disease in men plus the degeneration of muscle, bone, tendon and joints. It is a great mood enhancer and imparts a sense of wellbeing in aging men and women.

THYROID HORMONE
This metabolic hormone decreases steadily with age. Lack of thyroid hormone results in cold intolerance, fatigue, lassitude, weight gain, increased cholesterol, thin and dry skin, hair loss, thin and brittle nails. Replenishment results in reversal of these symptoms plus increased energy and metabolism.

PREGNENOLONE
Decline of this hormone occurs after age 30. This hormone aids in cellular repair of the central nervous system and is the most potent memory enhancer of all the hormones.

Walking the Red Carpet with RED CARPET CLEANSE

Fall fashion is in full force. Faux fur, chunky knits, velvet leggings, oh my!!! Unfortunately for me, after a summer of wining and dining (Church & State is my current obsession), my body is in full figure. Time to detox!

I enjoy doing detoxes a few times throughout the year, mostly to shed a couple of pounds of holiday excess or to slip effortlessly into my favorite pair of skinny jeans before a weekend away. But detoxes are also a great way to get my caffeine, alcohol, dairy, and processed foods intake in-check.

Enter Red Carpet Cleanse.

Red Carpet Cleanse is a daily home delivery, custom-prepared raw juice diet that boasts healthy concoctions with hip L.A. names. Think “Rawkstar Smoothie” (kale, mango, cinnamon, almond milk, stevia and sea salt), “Liquid Churro Smoothie” (Cashews, vanilla and cinnamon) and my personal favorite, “Ace of Blades” (cucumber, celery, lemon, ginger, apple). The diet consists of six drinks a day – I did it for three days — and as much water and green tea as you crave. It’s easy, healthy and delicious. It goes without saying, with Red Carpet Cleanse, as with any diet, it all comes down to will power. If you can stick to it, you will see – and feel – major result. I felt totally satisfied, lost four pounds in one week, and my skin was somehow… brighter.

And now, back to those leggings…
