Go Flawless Mobile Beauty launch party

June 13, 2011

Pampered to perfection

June 4th 2011 12PM-6PM…Go Flawless Mobile Beauty celebrated it’s launch party by treating guests to some of LA’s best salon and spa services. Instead of running from one location to another, as if anyone has time these days, Go Flawless will bring it to you.

Gohar Abrahamyan, (Founder of Go Flawless) like many women, is a busy mom with a full time job. She understands there's very little time in our schedules for some much needed pampering. On June 4th Gohar launched Go Flawless Mobile Beauty by partnering with some of the best fashion, beauty and spa service companies to promote this fabulous new concept.

It was barely 12:15PM before our suite at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, lavishly decorated with flowers, and filled with delicious snacks, was alive with guests lining up to get glamorous. Go Flawless took a few years off everyone and made a few lines disappear with a little botox while others went right for a hair, make up and manicures provided by Style Bar Beverly Hills. “Pimp my lashes” …no problem with The Lash Factory on hand there no need to wait for 6 weeks with one of those lash serums. These ladies took lashes to the limit.

American Laser Skin Care offered a couple alternatives to refresh your skin with micro-derma abrasion and a mild glycolic peel. No one wanted to leave until they tested the massage “machine” from Modus Therapy.

While guests relaxed in between treatments there was a plethora of good eats and sweet treats from Scrumbtious Cakes and Pastries, and Sissy’s Whoopie Pies. They also had a chance to “shop for a cause” from great yoga wear by AZIAM to Smitten with Luxe, colorful glass bracelets to help raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

What I’m bingeing on this week: FOAM (almost) No Calorie whipped topping!

June 8, 2011

i thought it had ZERO calories for the whole bottle until now.

nevertheless, i'm obsessed.

and so are other people, as in the fans who send in videos about pre-ordering cases and putting them on reserve at whole foods.

WHAT :: "ZERO CALORIE" WHIPPED CREAM.

boom.

10868852_Crema_Italia_Cappuccino_Foam

it's a bit confusing as the nutritional data says ZERO calories per serving. but i read on the website that it actually DOES have 23 calories per half cup. so if like me, you eat the whole can at once, that's around 322 cals.  so do try to contain yourself, will you?

other than that, this is heaven.

get it at whole foods. now!

Ok, eating a protein-rich breakie is no joke! Bingers, take heed. Eat some eggs for cryin’ out loud so you don’t stuff your face later….(etc).

Eat a Protein-Rich Breakfast to Reduce Food Cravings, Prevent Overeating Later, Study Finds <http://munews.missouri.edu/news-releases/2011/0518-eat-a-protein-rich-breakfast-to-reduce-food-cravings-prevent-overeating-later-mu-researcher-finds/>

VIDEO: Eat Breakfast to Increase Satisfaction, Manage Hunger: http://vimeo.com/23929986

COLUMBIA, Mo. (June 1, 2011) – A University of Missouri <http://www.munews.missouri.edu/>  researcher has found that eating a healthy breakfast, especially one high in protein, increases satiety and reduces hunger throughout the day. In addition, using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Functional_magnetic_resonance_imaging> ) the researchers found that eating a protein-rich breakfast reduces the brain signals controlling food motivation and reward-driven eating behavior.

Eating healthy, protein-rich breakfasts, such as waffles made with protein powder, can be a simple strategy for improving appetite control and preventing overeating.

“Everyone knows that eating breakfast is important, but many people still don’t make it a priority,” said Heather Leidy <http://ns.missouri.edu/faculty_leidy.html> , assistant professor in the MU Department of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology <http://ns.missouri.edu/index.html> . “This research provides additional evidence that breakfast is a valuable strategy to control appetite and regulate food intake.”

In the study, Leidy assessed physiological hunger and satiety by measuring perceived appetite sensations and hormonal markers in combination with psychological reward-driven motivation to eat, using fMRI to identify brain activation in specific regions related to food motivation and reward.

MU researchers assessed hunger and satiety by measuring appetite sensations and hormonal markers in combination with reward-driven motivation to eat, using fMRI technology to identify brain activity related to food motivation and reward.

The researchers decided to target ‘breakfast-skipping’ teens for two reasons, Leidy said. First, breakfast skipping <http://www.webmd.com/diet/news/20090615/skip-breakfast-get-fat>  has been strongly associated with unhealthy snacking, overeating (especially at night), weight gain and obesity. Second, approximately 60 percent of adolescents skip breakfast on a daily basis.

For three weeks, the teens either continued to skip breakfast or consumed 500-calorie breakfast meals containing cereal and milk (which contained normal quantities of protein) or higher protein meals prepared as Belgium waffles, syrup and yogurt. At the end of each week, the volunteers completed appetite and satiety questionnaires. Right before lunch, the volunteers completed a brain scan, using fMRI, to identify brain activation responses.

Compared to breakfast skipping, both breakfast meals led to increased fullness and reductions in hunger throughout morning. fMRI results showed that brain activation in regions controlling food motivation and reward was reduced prior to lunch time when breakfast was consumed in the morning.  Additionally, the higher protein breakfast led to even greater changes in appetite, satiety and reward-driven eating behavior compared to the normal protein breakfast.

“Incorporating a healthy breakfast containing protein-rich foods can be a simple strategy for people to stay satisfied longer, and therefore, be less prone to snacking,” Leidy said. “People reach for convenient snack foods to satisfy their hunger between meals, but these foods are almost always high in sugar and fat and add a substantial amount of calories to the diet. These findings suggest that a protein-rich breakfast might be an effective strategy to improve appetite control and prevent overeating in young people.”

The article, “Neural Responses to Visual Food Stimuli after a Normal vs. Higher Protein Breakfast in Breakfast-Skipping Teens…” <http://www.nature.com/oby/journal/vaop/ncurrent/abs/oby2011108a.html>  has recently been published online in Obesity. The Department of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology is a joint effort by MU’s College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, College of Human Environmental Sciences, and School of Medicine. Funding for the research was provided by the National Institutes of Health.

What I’m bingeing on this week: Earth Cafe’s Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Refined Sugar Free, Vegan and Raw (!!) IMPOSSIBLY DELICIOUS CHEESECAKES!!

June 6, 2011

first take a bite.  i mean, peek.

there's a reason these cakes won Vegetarian Time's "Best Raw Goodies" of the year award.

I'm always looking for any excuse to eat dessert at weird times of the day. I'm the only adult at toddler birthdays who angles in line, waving my plate to get the attention of whomever is cutting the multi-colored icing cake so I can make sure to get a hunk.  This is usually on a Sunday, at say, 11:30 am.

So when I hear about a dessert that's gluten free, raw, free of this and that, I think, oh! this will make the perfect breakfast!

Imagine my excitement when I got to sample all the flavors of  Earth Café's Cheesecakes.

Vegetarian Times magazine Foodie Awards 2010 named it a winner in the Best Raw Goodies category.  And I can see why.

These cakes are no joke.  They are divine. Only prob is, they may be more dangerous than REAL cheesecake! They are so light, refreshing, healthy and guilt free that you kinda' can't stop at just one piece. And each piece has two servings of around 200 calories,  15 grams of carbohydrates and 15 grams fat.  So double that for one piece.  And times it by 5 if you eat the way I do.  You may not be saving in the calorie dept.  Nor the $$ dept (they are not cheap).  But you are saving in every other way.  These cakes will not KILL YOU, like real cheesecake will.  So, it's worth it to make the switch.

The “cheese” is made with soaked nuts, agave, flavorings of lemon, vanilla,  cinnamon and carob ( I prefer real cacao or chocolate).  And fresh fruit for the fruit flavors.  Ground nuts make the yummmy, crunchy, binge-worthy crust.  Earth Café uses organic ingredients whenever possible.
