L.A. Christine No3 Berry Face Oil

February 22, 2013

BerryFaceoffI am a fiend for a face oil (or ANY oil for that matter). When L.A. CHRISTINE No3 BERRY FACE OIL came across my desk I went super-gaga for it. It's yummy in every way. I just started using it so I can't report on any cumulative effects. But the immediate feeling is divine, healing and nourishing. If my skin could talk it would be chanting, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOUUUUU.  You only need a teeny drop and it's not greasy, it absorbs and penetrates quickly and deeply, doesn't sit on the skin, is great for all skin types in all weather conditions.

The recipe packs a punch with a uniuq combo of 3 powerful antioxidant berries.

The Scandinavian Lingonberry (Puolukka in Finnish) is one of the most potent berries in the world from the Scandinavian Nordic hemisphere. The lingonberry’s Latin name is vaccinium vitis-idaea. According to Dr. Oz, Lingonberry is the new SUPERFRUIT.

Lingonberries contain plentiful organic acids, vitamin C, provitamin A (as beta carotene), B vitamins (B1, B2, B3), and the elements potassium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. In addition to these nutrients, the seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

The Brazilian Acai Berry is a warm-climate berry harvested from palm trees. The Acai berry is infused with omega fatty acids with anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and immune boosting properties as a result of its concentrated vitamins and minerals.

The fatty acid content in Acai resembles that of olive oil, and is rich in monounsaturated oleic acid. It helps omega-3 fish oils penetrate the cell membrane; together they help make cell membranes more supple.

The Raspberry is full of vitamins and minerals. It dramatically enhances the skin’s elasticity, reduces age spots and shields the skin from the damaging effects of the sun. Raspberries rank near the top of all fruits for antioxidant strength and are linked to significant health protection.

Arcona’s Red Carpet Radiance Treatment and me!

February 21, 2013

With awards season officially here (and nearly over) in tinsel town every salon from the 900__ to the 9021_ is bustling with treatment choices.  One of Hollywood's hottest happens to be ARCONA'S Red-Carpet Radiance Treatment. Celebs such as Zoe Saldana, Emmy Rossum, Anna Kendrick, Rachel Zoe and Mandy Moore head to this chill west side haven.

The Red Carpet Radiance Treatment includes: Oxygen spray & LED
Price: $175 (so worth the splurge for a big event or occasion)
Treatment Time: 80 minutes

After a particularly stressful week ARCONA's relaxing vibe nearly wiped away all of my stress. My aesthetician was Melissa. Spunky, sharp and so skilled Melissa left my skin glowing. As a self proclaimed beauty junkie I've been around the block. I know that the odds of leaving a treatment looking better than when coming in are slim to none. Last weekend I left looking better than I did when I arrivew with full makeup. I swear!  C'mon I wouldn't lie to all of you! Melissa integrated massage, exfoliation, gentle cleansing and hydration into this powerful treatment. Apparently massaging our skin provides an antidote to gravity as well as work to contour our skin.

I have posted a pic below of me with NO MAKEUP!! Gasp!

A little about ARCONA:

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a size 2 or a size 20, or weather you have a small budget or a large one, you can look amazing today,” says Jacqui on what she refers to as the “wow factor”, “And its not about being the prettiest woman in the room or the skinniest; it’s about being the woman people want to be around.”

Well ok, cuz I'm none of those!

Style expert Jacqui Stafford has years of experience working with thousands of real women writing for magazines like Vogue, Marie Claire, and Lucky and serving as the Executive Style Director at Shape Magazine for 8 years. She totally wow'ed my socks off when we met last week as part of her promo tour for “The Wow! Factor: Insider Style Secrets for Every Body and Budget,” an easy to follow guide based on her own insider information. The tour is a cross-promo with Coach's fragrance, Coach Love and the two make an awesome pair. Both Jacqui and the fragrance are sassy, fuss-free, sexy, inviting and every woman can totally relate!!  The book is fun, easy to ready and the no-nonsense style tips are really do-able. I'm loving it!

And, oh! Coach Love is totally romantic. A fully floral yet senusal scent, rich with jasmine and gardenia and hints of soulful patchouli. The heart-shaped logo design by Milton Glazer of the iconic “I Love New York” logo. A very girly and feminine bottle. Adorbs.

Valentine’s passed but VENUS is everywhere. VENUS FREEZE Treatment with Dr. Tess

February 19, 2013

Until I can (um, afford to) get surgically serious about the daunting aging situation I'm now facing in my mid-40's, I will be staving off the inevitable as painlessly, afford-ably and non-invasively as possible. I was super excited to meet with super-derm, Dr. Tess Mauricio in her Glendale clinic (on a Saturday!) to try out the new Venus Freeze – another powerhouse of a weapon in the non-invasive war on aging. (It does a whole lot more too but for me it's all about le face right now. HELP!)
Dr. Tess is super camera friendly, so when you see her literally pop up on her website, don't be concerned that she's not the real thing. She's just making the most of her adorable personality and on-air-ready persona. Good for her!

what:: Venus Freeze // Non-invasive treatment

The Venus Freeze combines Radio Frequency and Magnetic Pulses into a technology called (MP)², used to achieve cellulite improvement, skin tightening and wrinkle reduction. Venus (MP)² works by incorporating Multi-Polar Radio Frequency and Magnetic Pulsed Fields into one device and delivering it safely and effectively.

Skin tightening, wrinkle reduction and cellulite reduction occur because the multi-polar radio frequency causes a thermal response in the tissue which activates the body’s natural healing response. That healing response causes new collagen to form. Patients will find that the existing collagen in the skin contracts, causing the skin to look and feel firmer.

Like the Tri-Pollar and Exilis, the Venus Freeze requires several treatments to take effect. So let me tell you, my newly tightened jaw literally dropped, when I looked in the mirror half way through the warming treatment to examine a side by side comparison: the treated vs non-treated half. Even to my shrewd, discerning and skeptical eye, it was noticeably firmer, tighter and lifted. Even my husband said, WHAT THE HECK when I got home. I was so in love with the same day results I went a little nuts with excitement about it. And kept checking out the results to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. Oh and it feels amazing. HOT and divine.

Dr. Tess is fantastic and the doctor who performed the treatment was awesome. The place is in Glendale and open on Saturdays which is great. I would love to keep going and do a full series, as the effects did wear off a bit in a week or so. But it's not meant to be a one shot deal anyway.

Dr. Tess also talked about something I really could use called the Time Machine Package – like a gift from God if you ask me.

Time Machine addresses all aspects of aging: The personalized combination of treatments include:

1) skin resurfacing
2) sun damage reversal
3) revolumization/reshaping
4) tightening/lifting
5) muscle relaxation
Each patient requires a personalized approach. Patients just have to choose if it is a 2 years, 5 years or 10 years Time Machine. (LOVE)

All non Caucasian patients will need 4 sessions to achieve 5 or 10 years results.
For Caucasians, 10 years TM will require 1 week downtime and a few weeks with uneven coloration.
The Time Machine goes from $3500 and up.

Venus Freeze 30 minute treatment ranges from $300 and up with membership packages making the treatments significantly cheaper.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!! COZY FRIEDMAN shows us her HEART BRAID

February 14, 2013

Author of Cozy’s Complete Guide to Girls’ Hair, Cozy Friedman and beauty expert and author of Bonding Over Beauty, Erika Katz have created the cutest do-it-yourself styles and beauty recipes for Valentine’s Day. Pamper yourself with these great styles and recipes or share them with girlfriends!

THE HEART BRAID

Cozy Friedman’s Heart Braid is her signature Valentine’s Day style, featured in Cozy’s Complete Guide to Girls' Hair. If you have the French Braid down packed then this style will be an easy feat!

What You’ll Need: Wide-tooth comb, fine-tooth comb, decorative hair clip, ponytail holders

Image005

HOW TO!!

Step 1: Starting with damp hair (either towel-dried or misted), use a wide-tooth comb to detangle the hair.  Then, using a fine-tooth comb, part the hair down the middle of the head.  Clip one side up right above the ear.

Step 2: On the other side of the part, use the fine comb to gather a thin section of hair from the crown.  This section should measure about 2 inches from the hairline to the top of the head.

Step 3: Divide this section into three, and begin a French braid starting at the crown and curving toward the temple, then toward the back of the head, like the top lobe of a heart.  You will be lifting hair into the braid only from this side of the part.  Leave no loose hair in front of the ears.

Step 4: When you reach the center part at the back of the head, secure the braid with a ponytail holder.  If the hair is very long, end the braid about mid-ear; the ends will hang down the back.

Step 5: Unclip the hair on the other side of the part and repeat the process.  Secure with a ponytail holder.

Step 6: Join the ends of the braids together in the back.
