Jenefer Palmer, Founder and Chief Seaweed Officer of OSEA, has always had natural healing as a part of her life. In 1918 her grandmother became one of the very first female chiropractors in the world. By her early twenties, Jenefer was seeking out her own natural healing practice, studying various forms of the healing arts, including Polarity Therapy, Acupressure, Shiatsu, and Cranial Massage. Like her grandmother, she built a significant private practice. In 1981, she became Spa Director at Murrieta Hot Springs, then Southern California’s premier holistic spa destination.

While there, Jenefer designed then-revolutionary treatments such as Ayurvedic body wraps, detox baths for smoking cessation, aromatherapy salt glows, underwater lymphatic massage, and body wraps based on flower essences. To complement these treatments, Jenefer sought out natural skincare products to use and sell at the spa. Sifting through sample products, Jenefer heeded her grandmother’s oft-repeated maxim:always read the label. What she found shocked her: most of the “designer” skincare products used cheap, synthetic chemical ingredients.

Jenefer resolved to create an organic skincare line that was safe and effective. Thus began an eleven year odyssey that led to the development of OSEA. Turning to the ocean for key OSEA ingredients, she combined nutrients such as seaweed and other marine extracts with pure essential oils. In 1998, the line was launched in luxury retailer Fred Segal, where they remain showcased today.
