The makeup line with a philanthropic beat, MAKE, has created two limited-edition cosmetic bags that are as artisanal as they are ethical. The art driven, New York-based brand has teamed up with two powerful women-led co-ops across the Americas- Mercado Global, a nonprofit who led in the bags’ designs, and North Carolina-based Opportunity Threads, who followed on the manufacturing end. MAKE, thru their We See Beauty Foundation (www.weseebeauty.com), gives 33% of all online sales to women-led, worker-owned co-ops. This collaborative venture will create opportunities for jobs for women in Guatemala and the US. Mercado Global works with over 30 Mayan artisan worker cooperatives, consisting of more than 300 individuals in Guatemala, while Opportunity Threads is based in an area of North Carolina with one of the largest Mayan populations in the country. Together, they have created cosmetic bags that are vibrantly colored and culminating traditional weaving methods passed down through generations.
The custom designed cosmetic bag is available for $30 (or $45 with a Custom Matte Dew, a $57 value) at www.weseebeauty.com. The Small bag, a geometric-motif in green and blue thread, is $25, while the Large bag, in Guatemalan-inspired pinks and greens, sells for $30 if purchased separately, or $45 with MAKE’s best-selling Custom Finish Effect Matte Dew- a $57 value.
