How to Navigate Sand, Buff, and Beige Make-up Designory’s (MUD) Trick of the Trade

August 8, 2013

Face-products-2

I cannot choose a foundation to save my life.

So, yay!  The industry-experienced makeup artists at Make-up Designory (MUD) are here to safely navigate us to the perfect shade:

Survey: Study your skin’s shade and undertone. The shade is the color that you can see on the surface of your skin, often described as light, medium, tan, or dark. The undertone is the color underneath the surface tones generally categorized as cool (pink, red, or bluish undertones), warm (yellow or golden undertones) or neutral (a mix of warm and cool undertones).

Eliminate: Too light, too dark, too olive, or too pink? Take out the obvious and narrow down the playing field.

Test: As you get down to a few shades blend a small amount in to your jaw-line. Look into the mirror. If you can still see the foundation, it’s not the right color. If the shade blends fully with your skin, you have the right shade and undertone.

Insiders Tip:

A common mistake is trying the product on your arm or hand. If you aren’t wearing it there, why match that part of the body? Hold your hand or arm up to your face, do the two skin tones match.

Didn’t think so.

MUD’s line of foundations are unique in the sense that each shade is named for what it is. The line is broken down into an easy to navigate series with each part of the name representing undertone and shade, making it simple to navigate your way to the perfect shade.

MUD foundations retail from $17- $28 and are available on www.mudshop.com.

It feels like painting and you basically cannot go wrong.

Just follow these steps…

Step 1: Apply foundation like you normally would and don’t forget your eyelids. This will give you a base for your liquid eyeliner for maximum grip.

Step 2: Pull your eyelid taut. Start from the middle of your upper lash line and draw a line to the outer corner of your eye.

Step 3: Go to the inner corner of your eye and with the same technique draw a line back to the middle where you started.

Step 4: To make the wing, start from how far out you’d like it to go, and draw one line back to your outer eye corner.

Step 5: Now, draw another line to create the desired shape, and fill in the wing

White eyeliner is must for making your eyes look brighter and more awake. With this bright beauty stick those with smaller eyes will find that white eyeliner accentuates their look widens their gaze. White eyeliner should be a beauty staple in your cosmetic bag. Here are 5 ways to use white eyeliner and not all of them are for your eyes.

($1.99 RiteAide) a five inch kohl formula pencil with cap sharpener.

Use as Traditional Liner

Instead of lining your top lid with a thick smear of black, try using white. Since white eyeliner is bright and dramatic, this will create a noticeable, dramatic look

Layers of Color

Produce a white line of your top lid twice as thick as you would normally apply eyeliner. Next, apply black or brown liner on top of it with a line about half as thick. This will create a double eyeliner look that makes your eyes stand out without being as dramatic was a white-only liner look.

Highlight the Inner Corner

You can use white eyeliner to highlight the inside corner of your eyes to brighten your look. Starting from the corner, fan out about a centimeter on the top and bottom lid. This will make your eyes brighter, improving your look.

Under Your Brows To Highlight Your Brow Bone

You can white eyeliner to highlight your brow bone by swiping it directly underneath the brow then smudging it along the brow bone.

As Concealer

Hide a blemish by applying white eyeliner to it for first, then covering it with concealer. The whites will counteract the red of the blemish to create perfect coverage.
