“IN BOX” – an email from L.A.’s chicest interior designer Molly Luetkemeyer about her One Kings Lane tag sale!

November 5, 2010

As you can imagine, my IN BOX gets flooded with exciting events, invites and all kinds of juicy fashion, beauty and all things style related tid-bits.

Here's one from my dear friend the fabulista interior designer Molly Luetkmeyer about her tastemaker sale on One Kings Lane.

If you know Molly's work – then you'll be clicking around like crazy – credit card in hand.

If you don't know Molly, take a peek at her work…and…drool… (or weep in my case).  Seriously, her eye for design is literally the most amazing I have ever seen and looking at the homes she's designed depresses me because I want to be living in them NOW.

Here's what was in my IN BOX.

Hello everyone!

I thought I’d give you a heads up that I am doing one of the tastemaker tag sales on One Kings Lane this weekend.  If you are not familiar with them, here’s the skinny: One King’s Lane asks select designers to collect a trove of objects that reflects their design sensibility and then sell them on the okl website.  All of the items are at least 30% less than retail (sometimes as much as 70% off) and are unique pieces.  Since they are all one-of-a-kind, if you like it, you should grab it before someone else does.  my sale goes live on Saturday morning at 8am pst and stays up through Tuesday at 8am pst.   Here’s a link to the preview (if you are not already a member, you have to sign up for a free membership to view and purchase stuff.):

The other development on this end is that I have begun blogging.  Every day I write about something cool that has inspired me and give design tips and on Tuesdays, I answer readers questions.  I'd love any feedback if you have two seconds to check it out – www.mollyloot.com.

JAGGER EDGE RESCUES NATASHA’S iPHONE FROM FASHION SUICIDE

October 12, 2010

At a wine tasting last night, coffee at Aroma this morning, then soccer practice this afternoon, there’s rarely a moment I’m without my most beloved companion. A tried and true friend I can literally call on day and night, she’s always there for me. When I’m lost, she finds my way. When I’m down in the dumps, she takes me shopping. She gets my butt out of bed, helps me make a gourmet breakfast, goes on a hike with me, helps me pick the perfect nail color, gets me a front row seat to all the top runway shows, and even carries pictures of my kids.  She’s perfect! Well, almost…

Despite my best efforts, my iPhone has absolutely zero sense of style. As cool as she is on the inside, she a total bore on the outside.

Until now.

Thanks to a killer new iPhone cover from Jagger Edge – my favorite is black leather with gold studding ($92) — I am, for the first time, proud to be seen with my cutting-edge trend-setting friend.

Available for the iPhone 3 or 4, the Jagger Edge cover comes in an array of leather, animal print, faux wood and denim, and it has lots of edgy hardware options. It’s the perfect accessory in a modern world. The Jagger Edge iPhone cover is like a hip, in-the-know assistant to my celebrity status handbag. Unlike the usual plastic or rubber iPhone cases you see in the mall, these cases practically scream rock ‘n’ roll cool and effortless style. You want to be their friend. You would be so lucky.

In a world run by technology, it’s literally impossible to keep up without a smart phone. I’m so happy I can now do it in style. You should, too.

Nation Ltd – “Madison” Ex-Boyfriend Tee

October 6, 2010

Last year I found that I was unconsciously gravitating towards the men’s department when I would go shopping.  I was inexplicably drawn to the colorful piles of men’s shirts and cashmere sweaters.  I craved navy and turquoise Izod polo shirts. A pale blue gingham cotton checked Paul Smith shirt with a Kelly green cashmere v-neck sweater really spoke to me.  Yes, I grew up a prepster but this was ridiculous.  After many of these bizarre men’s department purchases and some careful self- analysis I realized I was shopping for an ersatz boyfriend.  Yes you heard me.  I was dressing a boyfriend I didn’t have and then plotting to borrow his clothes that I loved.  I’m not crazy, just very imaginative and adaptive.  You know what I’m talking about — that fabulous worn in and faded Lacoste shirt that’s oversized and makes you feel so tiny as it so generously skims your body.  Or your man’s wondrously broken in cotton button down shirt that falls just right and has the exact amount of tousle. So, now I had self awareness, but the clothes had to be returned because they didn’t belong to a real man and I wasn’t going to wash them 100 times to break them in because, well, that would be crazy.  I just had to suck it up and wear my own girl tee shirt to the farmer’s market on Sunday– that was until I discovered Nation Ltd (www.nationltd.com) and the absolutely brilliant Madison Ex-Boyfriend Tee.

Jen Menchaca loved wearing her Dad’s old white v-neck tee shirts.  But they were stained and not in great shape. So, she decided to recreate an idealized version in vintage tee shirt material and Nation Ltd was born.  Her latest creation — the Madison Ex-Boyfriend Tee similarly takes the essence of what we love about a boyfriend’s tee yet gives it a refined, sexy, feminine twist that is ultimately more becoming than your boyfriend’s tee shirt.  The tee is roomy, longer and slightly oversized, but it’s not sloppy, slouchy, soccer time territory.  Instead the fabric is ultra lightweight slinky modal cotton so the tee is fluid and skims your body in the sexiest way.  Whether we’re talking haute couture or a tee shirt, it’s all about the drape and this shirt nails it.  The sides are cut slightly higher than the front and back, which I also think, in addition to the fabric, must make the shirt lay better against a woman’s body.  The texture is incredibly soft and has that well-worn feeling of your absolute favorite tee shirt that’s been washed hundreds of times.  The v-neck is cut wide and low to alluringly show off your décolletage.  If this were a real boyfriend’s shirt the v-neck would be much higher and narrower and not as flattering.  Of course the sleeve is perfection as well and falls exactly where it should on your upper arm – not too high, not too low.

Jen has somehow peered into the inner recess of my mind and answered my subconscious tee shirt desires.  Now I’m just wondering…could she be of any assistance with that boyfriend?

Tatine Candles – Katherine reports

September 20, 2010

CANDLES, CANDLES, CANDLES!!!

I consider candles ENVIRONMENT GROOMING.

The right scented candle can really create the right vibe.  TATINE CANDLES
understands this.

I have one of the GARDEN FOREST INFUSIONS burning right now. Potent enough to transport me to a garden in the South of France in the
springtime, but subtle enough that I don't feel like I'm sitting here, well, smelling a
candle all day.  I also love the look of the dark green heavy glass. Simple and beautiful.

I'm demanding with my scented candles.  I want them to smell
great AND look great too.  It's an added plus that all of
these candles are handmade, the fragrances are blended by hand for each batch and made with love.

The
award winning packaging is made from 100% recylceled material.  The glassware is made from 40% recycled materials.  Which of course makes these candles the perfect gift.

No risk worrying that you're picking a scent someone wont like when it comes to gifting because they all smell so amazing.  I can definitely rationalize this
purchase ( 6 oz.  $32).  And I better because it'll now be a staple in my home.

An ENVIRONMENT that smells
pretty makes me feel pretty.

I got mine ROLLING GREENS ON BEVERLY BLVD. AND GARDNER.

Go to  www.tatinecandles.com  to check out the entire line there.

New from CELL CEUTICALS: PHOTO DEFENSE ANTI-AGING SKIN PROTECTOR WITH SPF 55

September 5, 2010

OOH!  I just received what just might be my fave product of the week!  And it's now in my top top top pick for sunblocks.

CellCeutical’s’ new PhotoDefense Anti-PhotoAging Daily Skin Protector SPF 55+/PA is a super light hydrating daily use formula for the face that, according to a company-issued press release, helps combat premature skin aging and reverse the signs of aging while providing broad spectrum protection against the sun’s harmful rays.

It feels amaazziingg going on. Not like any other sunblock I've ever tried.  SOOO light, almost weightless. The only problem is that my hubby has co-opted it. I keep putting a different brand out for him to use before he heads out for a run or to shoot hoops, one that I am not going to covet like this, but he's hooked on it.  I don't want to waste it on him!  What does he have to worry about anti-aging, etc?  Dudes just look better the older they get!

It's fortified with vitamin D, contains patent-pending Photoplex, a photostable complex said to combat both UVA and UVB radiation and quench both reactive oxidative species and advanced glycation end products. It's dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested, paraben-free, non-comedogenic, and non-irritating and contains no artificial color or fragrance or animal ingredients.
