They recently launched online and at all Heyday locations. Loving this brand that set out to rewrite the rules of skincare – particularly when it comes to traditional (read: inflated) pricing. 

BACKSTORY:

Onekind is the brainchild of brother-sister duo Matthew and Madison Ruggieri who – along with their business partner, actor Darren Criss – have been players in the men’s grooming category for close to a decade. Now they have taken all they know about fair pricing and top shelf ingredients to create this clean, accessible new brand which is “Every bit as luxe as le crème, but at a much fairer price.”

Onekind was originally designed to tackle the pink tax (products marketed at women are priced much higher than similar formulations aimed at men) but Onekind is unisex – ingredients are ingredients/skin is skin after all – and Darren uses the products every night in his skincare routine. Onekind is the brainchild of brother-sister duo Madison and Matthew Ruggieri who founded the popular men’s grooming site The Motley as well as their own successful brands, Buckler’s and Port Products.

During this time, they learned a lot of good and bad things about the beauty industry including how unnecessarily marked up products for women can be (for example, they had experts tell them to price their men’s products lower “as men won’t pay enough as women”). This infuriated Madison but  she just looked in her own medicine cabinet and knew she was being ripped off…just for buying skincare marketed towards women.

Here are six easy ways to make sure your home photoshoot is a success:

Declutter

This simple but often overlooked step is essential when staging a house. A cluttered space distracts from your home’s beauty, so make sure your space is neat and organized. Clean the Bathroom 

Your makeup and hairspray looks great on you, but it doesn’t look nearly as good on your bathroom counter. Use your drawers and cabinets to place your products and brushes out of sight. Don’t forget to clean the mirrors and wipe down the sink to get rid of any soap scum or stains.

Mow the Lawn 

All Southern Californians know that brown, dead lawns are pretty common. Make your home stand out by spending some time boosting your curb-appeal. Before taking photos, make sure to spruce up your law, trim the bushes, and rake up leaves. Add a splash of color by planting seasonal flowers and and add some potted plants by the front door.

Hide the Pets

1. Make DIY Skin Care. Here are a few of my favorite ingredients:

Avocado is hydrating and nourishing, with naturally occurring vitamins A and E—it’s great for masks.

Honey is healing, hydrating, clarifying, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and
pH balancing. It’s great in skin cleansers, masks, and exfoliants. Remember to use raw (unpasteurized) honey; you don’t want to kill this ingredient’s beneficial bacteria.

Oats have moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and healing properties. They’re perfect in skin cleansers and masks.

2. Eat more vegetables.

Vegetables come straight from nature and are perfectly made to nurture our skin from within. Their high antioxidant, vitamin, mineral, and fiber contents make them one of the most important food groups for skin health. Most people don’t eat enough vegetables. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), less than 14 percent of Americans consume the recommended amount of 2 to 3 cups (weight varies) of vegetables daily. Stop for a moment, and add up the number of vegetable servings you ate yesterday. Did you have six or more servings?

I recommend at least 3 cups of vegetables per day. You may be wondering how you’ll fit all that in. Here’s how: Eat at least 2 servings of veggies with each of your three meals, eat extras for snacks, and you’ve easily surpassed the recommended minimum.

“It’s important to know there are alternatives to toxic skin care ingredients that often prove healthier and less risky than those commonly used in commercial lines. So don’t think you have to toss everything you own and abandon your current hygiene routine completely,” explains Dr. Cates.
