JADE STONE MASSAGE AT LE PETITE RETREAT DAY SPA IN LARCHMONT

Wow, what a little treat. I fell in love with LE PETITE RETREAT DAY SPA while parking my car. Don't let the corporate website design fool you – I too wish the design reflected the specialness of the spa – you know I'm mad about good web design – but sadly it doesn't – still, don't be discouraged! Beautiful relaxing music (Asian? Tibetan?) is piped right into the parking lot of this charming, secret, little understated spot in Larchmont.

It really is a hidden treasure. An oasis, a little va-ca to Thailand right in the middle of town. (And up the block from Koo Koo Roo – my fave).

I had the Jade Stone Massage. Well, the pre-natal version if it. Which means I didn't get the ultra-deep work I crave, love and demand or the hot and cold stone therapy (only hot to keep my temp regulated) but man did I get a flavor of what cool massage it is. The lovely Michael worked this hot hot Jade stone into my muscles like a tool and I was amazed at how goooood it felt. At first I thought…Stones? Big whoop. Just dig into me with the force of 100 Trojans…But I soon felt the healing therapy of the smoothness of the stones, not to mention there is a chakra healing element to the Jade (green = heart) if you are into that sort of thing. I was in a pretty, outdoor room with lots of natural light and birds chirping and I really did feel like I was in some exotic land.

I checked out this very cool copper bath inside where they offer (couples too) some interesting bath therapies. I'd love to sink into one of those one day!

The massage is on the pricer side – $150 for 60 mins – so I suggest fully taking advantage of your time there. Relax, have some tea, a piece of fruit, take a sauna, shower and enjoy the amenities to make a real day of it.

I finally made it to the gorgeous Dermalogica store on Montana Avenue. Wow, I felt sparkly clean just walking in there. This 'concept' store -is very crisp and modern with lots of rounded edges. Swiss clinic meets space-age meets femme curves. Nicely done.

The estheticians are all highly knowledgeable as they are trained at the amazing International Dermal Institute –The Dermalogica Academy. Michelle Blaugrund who worked on me was incredible. There is nothing that makes me happier than someone working on my face who knows their shizznit. And she did and then some.

The facial was simple, soothing and lovely. I'd say a solid monthly facial perfect for in between something deeper and more rigorous.

…super comfy room and table…love the changing colored lights that were going off on one wall… rounded pod like room…very cozy and womb-like…can you say reeelllaaaxxx?

It was a super-hard-core work-out-for-the-skin-facial where you're stripped, dermabrasioned and peeled. No acids or chemicals here. It's the kind of facial where you could easily go out that night and right after with no need for recovery time from any major deep facial procedure. It would make a great monthly upkeep facial or gift for someone. The price is certainly right for either – just $85 for 60 minutes….

You can add on a microZone (see below) for $25 (adds 20 minutes) for a little deeper skin fix.

Lavish Tan – Custom Airbrush – in Venice on Abbot Kinney- new digs!

Wow, this place is just so, so pretty. All white and turquoise and flooded with natural sunlight. (Ok not my fave light to be standing butt-ass-naked in even in front of myself let alone another person, but perfect for airbrush tanning cuz you can see every last pore- and wrinkle- and hair- and what not. In other words, nary a spot-o-skin will go uncovered.) And it's cozy and personal. Not a giant factory.

The rates are very reasonable, the people are amazingly sweet, knowledgeable and most of all, skilled.

I asked for super dark as I'm already naturally Mediterranean colored. Alex who has been doing this for years did a great job – very even, thorough, no streaking,etc. And while the tan didn't turn out as deep-n-dark as I imagined, (or as is my preference) it looked VERY natural. Not even a tinge of orange. In fact, it was just a subtle bronze-glow, like I had been in the sun, maybe a week ago. Man, it's amazing how just that little of bit warmth in your skin tone makes such a huge diff. A week later and it's faded nicely. And Alex said we can def go darker next time (yay!). I'm back to my natural skin but it faded without spotting or streaking or turning a weird color. The whole look is very natural with the brown sugar based products they're using. Ah, here's the reason why:

Will I get that fake "orange" color?

No, we use the highest quality tanning solution that will give you that “kissed by the sun” look and will develop into a natural-looking tan. We use a brown-sugar based-solution so the results are 100% golden brown.

DHA and the FDA

Tanning solution's active ingredient, DHA is FDA approved for topical use . It the main ingredient in almost all over the counter self-tanning creams and sprays. It has also been approved for ingestion and inhalation. Unlike in the 1970’s when DHA was first introduced to society, you will not turn orange, or streak. Extreme improvements to the solution have been made over the past several years. The color is golden brown, because it is derived from sugar, and no longer derived from carrots.

Oh, and they customize the smell for you which is a fun yummy little perk!
