Malin + Goetz = LOVE

new store.

238 NORTH LARCHMONT BOULEVARD.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.  90004.

I have huge respect for anybody who operates according to a personal or professional philosophy and Messieurs Malin and Goetz abide by a very clear philosophy that I saw in every aspect and detail of their business from their packaging to their ingredients to the design of their new store on Larchmont.  I walked into the opening celebration and immediately understood that I wanted to live in this perfectly imagined space with the custom made built in white floor to ceiling shelves of my dreams that hold the products to a choice mix of modern fixtures with antique pieces.   But all of this stunning design is really just an alter to the glory of the product.  Malin + Goetz began as and remains a personally developed product line that is like all that is worthy in our modern world – a blend of state-of-the-art knowledge with old world craftsmanship.  Matthew and Andrew personally develop each and every formula with a trusted chemist to offer effective treatments, all free from unnecessary detergents, colorants and synthetic fragrances.  The result – pure, natural products that deliver real treatments and solutions for skin, body and hair similar to a traditional apothecary.

Having sniffed and sampled every single item in the store, I will call your attention to a few selections – an incredibly unique and fresh geranium scent that I found in an eau de toilette and a body wash, a hair pomade that smelled deliciously like licorice, a neroli candle that smelled identical to a spring day, a cannabis candle that smelled nothing like mary jane, but did smell like a man I’d like to lick all over, a eucalyptus deodorant that smelled like a fresh cut lime with no alcohol and that is aluminum free and would alleviate self-consciousness when raising the roof or other gestures of high praise, and an acne treatment with 10% sulfur that looks highly productive and medicinal and I wish I’d had last week when I had a honker on my chin.  Check out the website at www.malinandgoetz.com for the stores and locations that carry the products or to order on line.

is OMBRE a little too 2011 for you? enter the latest color-fade trend : COMBRE

March 16, 2012

i am in love with ms. wigg. seriously, it’s weird.
and now, she’s making it even cooler for all of us brunettes out there.
if you notice, she’s starting to rock the latest craze…
the “Combre” (i think the “co” is for copper)  a super easy way to spice up your brown locks.
“For women who desire a more natural color, or those who aren’t exactly sure if they want to go lighter or darker, copper ombre is ideal for a subtle change,” says colorist Dana Ionato of Sally Hershberger Downtown.
Great for both blondes and brunettes, and also those looking for a more dramatic ombre, Combre is a bright or deep brown copper base fading to a lighter shade from the roots to the ends, or vise versa.
Butterscotch, golden copper and apricot versions of Combre can be seen on trendsetting celebs like Blake Lively.
Perfect to complement most skin tones, brunettes can keep their deeper, darker copper-brown roots with lighter, brighter ends, as seen on A-listers such as Salma Hayek, Eva Longoria, Rachel Bilson and Jessica Biel.
A rich chestnut color over a lighter shade to add contrast, gives an edge, keeps dimension and adds a new twist sure to stop heads everywhere.

Frizzy hair and Brazlilians are a no-no. What to do? A Keratin Express with Tina at THE PRIVATE ROOM

March 14, 2012

The-Private-Room

so the word on the street is: Brazilian Blow Outs* are toxic and then some. (great, i did one pregnant. oy). so what to do about super frizzy, damaged hair?

keratin, keratin, keratin.

i popped into The Private Room, the adorable little boutique salon in BH where the Tina Dizon, the sweetest, warmest, no BS owner/stylist meet me and my frizz head-on and promised to salvage it sans cancer causing chemicals.

enter the KERATIN EXPRESS treatment. while it would not give me those gorgeous silky straight locks of Brazilian days of yesteryear, it would restore my fried ends and take my hair healthy, more silkier place, and with the infusion of Keratin, from the inside out.  and this it did. my hair is looking 80 percent better now and it's been three weeks since. and while i am still desperate for some silky-frizz-free straightening, Tina assured me the next treatment we will do, now that my damaged hair is more restored, will take me close to the stick straight look those formaldehyde drenched days, but totally chemical free. i've already booked my next appt. i'm also eager for a trim from her as i could tell from my amazing blow dry that she has a fab hand and eye.

while Tina is known for her sought-after for her "Ballet" Extensions, an exclusive application technique that involves detailed artistry and custom prep work and a duo-fusion process she does it all, color, cut and restorative treatments.

KERATIN EXPRESS, will have you silky and restored, starting at $135

the full on KERATIN starts at $300

* Most Brazilian treatments (BKT) contain as much as 2% formaldehyde, and many treatments can contain higher percentages than that. Now there are many Keratin Treatments that are Formaldehyde Free. Formaldehyde is a carcinogenic, and used in this application as a volitile liquid (quick drying) component to keep the keratin compound in liquid form, which dries once you have applied it to the hair. Formaldehyde is an acceptable additive in cosmetic use but the FDA doesn’t have to approve cosmetic products as they do drugs.

STRIPT WAX BAR on West 3rd Street – amazing LASHES too!!

March 5, 2012

Stript LA Reception

wowza. didn't think it was possible. an even more amazing lash extensions goddess hath descended upon us. no secret, i'm a full on extension junkie.

and now, mama's got a brand new crush.

Courtney – at the new(ish) lovely STRIPT WAX BAR on West 3rd Street.

have her put her "Lashfully Eyelash Extensions" on you and the lightest, most beautiful, natural, no one would ever know, non-drag queen lashes can be yours.

i have never had such light, clean, non-fake looking extensions, ever. and i've been wearing them since 2007. (yikes). and, so far, over a week in, they have totally lasted, practically every single lash.  but it is how natural they look and feel, that is really the knock out here.  as is COURTNEY – she's amazing, divine, sweet and talented. love her.

while we're on the wax bar itself, let's not forget – they do hardcore lovely waxing.  it's a salon dedicated to the art of waxing. They've been featured on CBS The Doctors, Joan knows Best, On air with Ryan Seacrest; Manny On The Streets, and will be listed in Allure Magazines May 2012 Waxing Directory.

They specialize in men’s and women’s waxing and offer Stript Wax Bar signature Vajacial, Brazilian and custom facials. The Los Angeles location also offers eyelash perms and tints, and South Seas custom full body spray tan. They also host Lashfully Eyelash extensions and Amy Shabani; a Licensed Physical assistant with over 10 years of cosmetic fillers, Botox and Intramuscular vitamin injections experience.

if you've never had extensions – Courtney is the perfect start. I am totally obsessed with her.
