DRYBAR – L.A.’S 1st BLOW DRY/ BLOW OUT “BAR”

February 22, 2010

HOW COOL IS THIS?!

DRYBAR

Totally genius idea.  Booked my first appointment and cannot wait. Letcha’ know how it goes.  Looks awesome.  A super cool blow dry for $35?  Brilliant.

LA’s first “blow dry bar” has a very simple concept: No cuts. No color. Just blowouts. $35
drybar was created when co-founder Alli Webb outgrew her “one woman” mobile show.  After moving to LA, she began doing at-home blowouts on the side, but the strictly referral-based business quickly exploded.  Webb says” I realized that women wanted a better blowout, a better experience, and a better price – especially in this economy.”  After a year of planning and development, the drybar concept was born!  The idea is centered around a bar experience as opposed to a typical “hair salon” environment.  The main “blow out bar”  is the focal point of the space and where women will sip their cocktail and watch Sex and the City while getting a blow out!  Whether you want the Manhattan (sleek and smooth hair) or the Mai Tai (messy, beach hair), there is something for everyone.

Check out these pix.  Gorgeous space!

RIC PIPINO’S NEW HAIR CARE LINE: REVOLUTION IN CUT

February 2, 2010

Hair care is ready for a change…Women are ready for a Revolution

So super excited! I’ve been obsessed with Ric ever since he gave me the world’s best haircut that I FLEW TO NYC FOR this year. He told me he was coming out with his own line of hair products and viola – it’s here! What’s so cool about it is that the products are formulated specifically to your cut. So far, so good, and I’m diggin’ the styling products big time. THe shampoo and conditioner are super yummy. OH! And they smell amazing! Here’s a bit about the stuff below:

Pipino’s new line revolutionizes the concept of hair care with products designed to address the haircut rather than hair type. Recognizing a void in the hair care market, Pipino designed Revolution In Cut to re-energize and support the haircut and help bring out its personality, shape and style – a simple maintenance plan that helps hair respond to its new shape.

Ric Pipino’s groundbreaking approach to hair care serves haircut functionality, helping to maintain the integrity of the haircut day in and day out. Using an innovative haircut-specific approach, Pipino designed a line of products that stand up to his high level of standards and keep his clients’ hair looking both healthy and beautiful, all while maximizing the cuts’ shape and style between salon visits. Each product reinforces the signature cutting techniques used to create the haircut. Revolution In Cut is comprised of a shampoo, conditioners, primers and styling products customized to the six essential haircut techniques: bob, layered bob, crop, short layer, long layer, blunt. Inspired by Pipino’s personal memories of trips to Italy with his father, each product is lightly infused with the scent of Neroli (orange blossom), reinforcing Pipino’s belief that hair should be a multi-sensorial experience – not just about the way hair looks and feels, but how it smells. All products in the Revolution In Cut line are free of sulfates, parabens and gluten.

CARE FOR my cut
Revolution In Cut’s customized shampoo, conditioner and deep conditioner are suitable for all hair types and haircuts, designed to complement the unique primers. The daily conditioner provides UV protection and contains Keratin and protein to prevent breakage. The deep conditioner acts as a weekly hair mask using amino acids and botanicals to nourish and repair dryness and damage.

PRIME my cut
The six primers or pre-styling products are in essence an extension of the hairdresser’s scissors, helping to support and maintain the performance of the haircut in between salon appointments. These first-to-market primers are formulated with the specific levels of hold, volume, texture and shine to improve the condition of the hair, in turn extending the life of the cut. Containing a proprietary blend of amino acids, proteins and vitamins in conjunction with unique nanosphere technology, Revolution In Cut primers increase the strength, hydration and elasticity of the hair.

STYLE my cut
Pipino puts the final touches on Revolution In Cut with a wide range of styling products that allow the haircut to take on new personalities. The categories include Toussle Me, Curl Me, Smooth Me and Lift Me. Thermal protectants found in the Toussle, Smooth and Lift products prevent color from fading and protect against damage from heat styling tools. Rich antioxidants found in the Toussle product work to repair damage and provide movement without build-up.

With a focus on delivering personal attention to each hair type’s needs, Revolution In Cut is a direct reflection of Pipino’s approach to styling – it’s personal.

Revolution In Cut launches January 2010 and will be sold exclusively through the month of March 2010 at Beauty 360 (www.beauty360.com)  locations nationwide and online at as well as Pipino’s salons and online at www.pipino.com. Beauty 360 offers prestige and niche beauty products from around the world, and as an extension of CVS/pharmacy, provides customers nationwide with access to upscale, professional products. Revolution In Cut is the latest addition to their roster of luxury brands.

You Sexy Mutha Haircut

December 12, 2008

I've been letting my hair grow. Grow and grow until the cows come home. Or until, the ends breaks off and turn to dreads which happened last week.

So Danny – colorist Guru is putting it lightly – told me I had to get a trim (darn!!) and that I had to try Tomas, the straight hunky, sexy Polish guy who kinda dresses like a straight hunky, sexy, Polish guy at Byron (Now Byron and Kelly).

I warned him, with threats of physical injury or least, just having to listen to me blab about myself for and hour, "Just SHAPE it, ok?? Or I won't shut up. Seriously, this will not be fun for anyone."

And that is what he did. And what he THEN did with that round brush and a blow dryer was like David Blaine with a Cosmetology degree. He might as well have been in a hair show. Curling that hair this way and that around that big fat barrel and making into major SEXY like, Victoria Secret Photo-shoot hair. He said  "I hope you go someplace good tonight!" The winks were less than subtle.  I said I'll be picking up my two year old and getting into bed with her when it gets cold later. He was disappointed to say the least.

Anyway, he's this shizzy. He did so much by seemingly doing so little. But that's the trick, right. Making it look so – simple. Seriously, it was like magic!! There was practially nothing on the floor yet my hair looks entirely beyond better.

I tried to take some photos with my phone but they are all blurry and what not. I'm super thrilled as the truth is, to let it grow, you gotta trim it up now and then so you don't look like a freak.
