Erica Reiss for gorgeous color and cuts – and she makes house calls!!

February 17, 2015

Gorgeous color and cut IN YOUR HOME with celeb stylist ERICA REISS.

I just had the most amazing color – and, are you kidding?… in the comfort of my own home!!

The fabulously talented Erica Reiss has a pedigreed background as a cutter/colorist in demand and how lucky am I (and you too!) to have had her grace my pad with her bag of tricks and spin my gray streaked brown-orange over-processed mop into stunning gold, honey, carmels and blonde. I have the rich, warm sun-kissed Jen Lopez mane that I love. Watch out J-lo, Jew-lo’s in the hizzy!

Erica’s been known to attract top-models, musicians, actors/actresses* all seeking the best cuts/color in the business and her signature funky, “bed-head” hair.  She was the senior stylist at Jonathan Salon West Hollywood where she worked for 17 years until they closed.  Her tenure working with Jonathan Antin (you may remember her from the Bravo show “Blowout”)  has made her an expert in both cutting and coloring and now she’s flying solo.  She’ll pop over to your house and color and cut you AND your entire family.  Seriously, I know three families that have her rock out mom, dad and the kids on a fun Sat afternoon.  You can also swing over to her place near the Burbank Equestrian Center, but man, there is nothing like a house call, I am telling you.  She’s like the hair doctor (in fact, she’s a wicked color corrector).

*Let’s name drop, shall we?  Estella Warren, Megan Fox, Charlize Theron, Ellen Degeneres, Vanessa Marcil, Patricia Heaton, Jay Leno/ Personal Cutter- Presently, David Spade, Dave Navarro, Mark McGrath…

I am in love with my hair, finally the blondy blonde highlights that I worship and a perfecto-dusting of dead ends, stunning blow out ( which, btw, she will TEACH you how to do for yourself).

Please email Erica for prices as they vary with or without blow-dry and travel rates are dependent on travel time, destination and all that…Also, fist time clients must come to her home studio first.

Best new stylist in town for hair, Jon Reyman at Spoke and Weal

October 26, 2014

Jon Reyman is one of those top, international, uber-genius stylist super stars that you would be lucky to get your hair cut from.  Lucky me, as I did!  The great news is you can too, at the gorgeous new Spoke and Weal salon on West 3rd street.

I was so excited and had so much confidence going in to my haircut, that I just said “cut it – do whatever” ! Best decision I have ever made. He took my long, witch-tail hair and lobbed it off. I kept blabbing about needing a Brazilian blow out to tame my frizz and kink and he just said NO NO NO. He insisted I drop the chemicals and embrace my natural wave.  He lobbed off around 5 inches of over-processed thinning hair and the result is a lighter, bouncier longer bob, just beneath the shoulders. I love it beyond.

Jon is one of the loveliest people I have ever met. No bullshit, authentic, caring, kind and tuned in to the client.  His credentials are ridiculous –

A haircut with him will set you back $450. But my advice, save up, do it once or twice a year and you are good to go.  Don’t forget Christine for color at Spoke and Weal.  She’s the bomb.

I HATE taking selfies and this is as good as my pose gets – calling Zoolander!  This is me being really happy about my hair. (Now you know why I don’t take selfies!!!)  This is the day after the cut and I worked to scrunch it up and let go of the super straight blow dried look.

The hair product that will change your life

dry remedy™ daily moisturizing oil

My hair is so dry, it’s a fire hazard. This oil is saving me from having to cut it all off and just start over (still tempted to do so however as I am pining for a hair cut at Spoke & Weal with the master, Jon Reyman ).

I have been an Aveda oil junkie since the day it launched. Yes, that is how old I am. I am talking AVEDA…like, in general.

This oil is pure enough to use everywhere. I mean, you know, for skin too.

Aveda-Dry-Remedy-Oil

  • 99.9% naturally derived,* with the hydrating power of buriti oil
  • instantly moisturizes hair by 41%**
  • leaves hair soft and full of shine
  • formulated without silicone, so it takes only a few drops to moisturize hair

CUT, COLOR & AVEDA CONDITIONING AT SPOKE & WEAL on WEST THIRD ST

July 29, 2014

I have always been obsessed with Aveda products from the moment the brand made it’s debut.  As someone who lives for pure essential oils ( I cannot go a day without my dose of them in my nose, through my hair and all over my body ) Aveda is an obvious choice for the purity and authenricity of their products.

I was super thrilled to discover that master stylist, Jon Reyman and colorist Christine Thompson coming together to open Spoke&Weal, a full service Aveda Lifestyle salon, on West 3rd street ( right next to Toast!).

I checked out the massive, stunning space last week and Christine’s work on my horribly greying roots was nothing short of artful.  She studied the way my grey grows in, where it’s more white, where it’s more spotty, and matched the natural growth so that when it starts to grow in, say, where it is more white at the temples, the blond highlights in that specific area are lighter than elsewhere. It was not just ‘getting my roots did’ but a true science meets art meets beauty approach. My roots were matched perfectly to a my extremely detailed blonde highlighted situation and it was quite a tall order.  Christine finished off by infusing some much needed love to my naturally frazzled locks with an Aveda Botanical hair therapy treatment (or two!) that glossed, nourished and conditioned it – my hair looked 150% healthier, shiner and simply put – more stunning.   CAN I SAY THAT?  Yup, I totally can, because it has zero to do with me and everything to do with Christine’s knowledge, expertise and care.

I cannot wait to go back in a few weeks to see what Jon will do to shape and trim it. Grow hair grow so I can go get it cut!!

This salon is a must and so so so needed in this ‘hood.  Who wants to shlep to Bev Hills for hair all the time? Until now there was not one decent, let alone masterful, salon in the Fairfax area and now we have one to call our very own. YAY!

Mika Fowler for brilliant, precision dry hair cuts at Kim Vo Salon

July 14, 2014

Mika is one of those world-reknown stylists who make you feel like you are not just having a “haircut” but some real art and science are being dropped on your head.  She is famous for a reason.  The woman knows hair – everything about it.  How it lays, how it acts, what it needs and most of all how her cut will best serve you.

When I sat in her chair (At the lovely uber-fancy Kim Vo Salon in the Montage hotel spa in Bev Hills) she did an extremely thorough intake: what the problems were, what she could do, what the next few months might look like, how it will sit, dry, and behave if it was cut like x, y or z.  This is the kind of attention every stylist should give to a client.

My issues, besides the straw-like ends from having my hair very bleached out (which I friggen love love love thank you to the one and only Dani Hernandez at Jonathan on CivicCenter Drive) but my last cut was done with a razor and there was a dramatic V in the back.  Too much, I think.  Mika agreed.  She decided to soften it (not blunt it as that would have made it too short) and unify the lengths so they flowed.  She fixed (and I mean fixed, as I had cut them myself) my strange bang situation and the overall cut was astonishing brilliant.

Oh, she cuts hair dry – straightening it first.  This is her thing – because it allows her to see the hair as it lives on your head during the day.  I loved my dry cut.  It made total sense.  I could also see the final story emerging as it was being told, so to speak.

I am going to finish out my year with Mika – until I simply HAVE to try someone else for a review. But I am happy as a clam and I am not budging.
