Andrea Tweten Ford at Canale-Martinez Salon / Pacific Palisades

Andrea Tweten Ford is not just one of the best hair stylists in the city of Angels, but the Canale-Martinez Salon — tucked away in the Pacific Palisades — is a much-needed departure from the overly-trendy hair scene in Beverly Hills and West Hollywood.

I sat down with Andrea last week for a “sexy flowy” LOB and to chat about about the biggest hair mistakes women make, the best styles for busy moms, and more. Check out the below Q&A with Andrea for the scoop!

Did you always want to get into the hair business? Yes I always wanted to be in the beauty industry. I am passionate about beauty and love making woman feel and look beautiful.

How did you start? I started in the industry working in cosmetics for Chanel when I was in college. I loved it. So I wanted to take it farther and went to beauty school. The rest is history. I trained with extremely amazing hair stylist to take my education all the way. I worked under Christophe Soltaine in Seattle and Fredrick Fekkai in Dallas who are masters at the French technique. Through them I learned and mastered French technique. The French technique is a gorgeous way of cutting the hair. Sexy flowy lots of movement soft blended lines and layers. My secret weapon is French cutting.

What do you consider the biggest hair “mistake” women make? Clients thinking they need a certain color and cut because of there age. You need to rock and work what style works for you regardless of age.

Do you have a cure for the classic bad-hair-day? I love hats. Hats are so hot and sexy and sassy and stylish. A low bun is a must as well — and don’t forget a great bright lip!

What are some tips for protecting your hair during summer? Hats, leave in masks and deep conditioners and oils from Oribe are great for summer. I love salt spray for a messy-beachy-wavy look. Side braids also look great. The Palisades is a very chill laid back area — embrace it with style!

Can you tell us your take on the trends in hair at the moment? I am all about what looks great on the client. I am in love with the LOB. Super sexy sassy beachy casual hair with a slight wave is hot for fall. My signature haircut is long layers. I customize each cut for every client based on face shape and bone structure.

How do you like working in the Palisades as opposed to Beverly Hills or Hollywood?

I love it. I wouldn’t work anywhere else. I am a Palisades local and I embrace the beachy, chill lifestyle 100%. I love working for Micheal Canale and Jeffrey’s Martinez and our salon manager, Bobby Warden. We have a great team, which creates a friendly, fun and professional atmosphere for our clients. Best profession in the world!

Mare Salon for Joico’s K-PAK Color Therapy Luster Lock

Today, hair frazzled and fried from my usual neglect, I entered Mare, the uber chic Weho hair salon, owned by celebrity colorist, Dennis De Souza for my virgin experience with Joico’s K-PAK Color Therapy Luster Lock .

Ladies, if you color, abuse, or in any way neglect your locks, this is the treatment to save you! My hair was begging for some magic and Joico delivered. Check out these pics below (beautiful woman with long blonde hair is not me, but model on hand to demonstrate a before/after):

Dennis could not have been more gracious, welcoming and elegantly professional as he masterfully applied the K-PAK Color Therapy Luster Lock treatment and let it work its magic for a good five minutes. This is an at-home deep conditioning treatment I fully intend to continue with for my thirsty hair! (Dennis’ hands sold separately).

After the hair mask was rinsed, I had the best blow out and then coiffure by two of the excellent stylists on board.

My hair was as silky as mink coat, styled perfectly and shining in the (HOT as Hades) LA sunshine.

Yes, I walked out of there like a slo-mo hair care commercial, but more importantly with healthy hair.

Brazilian Blowout is Back and Better than ever with Erica at Ramirez Tran

Today I kissed my #JewFro goodbye again!

With the genius of Erica Birdoes at the infamous Ramirez Tran ( you know, THE Ramirez Tran who we all stalk on Instragram)

BB’s have been out of the lime light for a while because of all the hub bub a few years back about their safety. Meanwhile fro’s and frizz have never stopped loving them and demanding them. It’s just the WHO’s and HOW’s of administering have become much more important.

Enter (goddess AF) stylist Erica Birdoes. (love at first sight for me!)

In less than two hours, in a gorgeous, open air (as in door open) fans-on studio, she tamed the beast that is my jew from meets bleached blond and my hair is so soft, shiny and gorg, I want to take a hundred seflies. And I did. But they all look like shit.

You’ll have to trust me or stalk me on Insta.

Erica is a dream, this was NOT the BB I remember from years ago. No smell (though she gave me a sexy little pimped out medical mask) and it just went FAST!

For $450 every few months ( I ill try to stretch it out to 4 please god willing)! it is totally worth it. Basically, zero hair work. Shower, finger dry, boom, straight, frizz free shiny hair.

Next time, I’ll have her cut my hair – her eye for style is impeccable. And I HAVE TO TRY A COLORIST HERE!!!!

MECHE SALON| Alissa Tietgen Smith | Believe the hype

Style insiders know Meche salon is one of the uber-coolest salons in Los Angeles. Just walking through the front door of the elite full-service salon in the heart of Beverly Hills makes you feel like you are part of something cool and happening, because, well, you are. It would be of no surprise at all if you bumped into the likes of Gwenyth Paltrow, Lily Aldridge, Jennifer Lopez or Jennifer Garner as the salon’s owners, Tracey Cunningham and Neil Weisberg, have quite the celebrity following when it comes to color. Meche has a bit of a Studio 54 following these days — and after experiencing it for the first time, I can see why.

I popped into the Meche to get a cut with Alissa Tietgen Smith — not an easy feat as Alissa is THE stylist everyone’s flocking to. It’s no wonder. Alissa is a noted bangs, BOB and LOB expert with a very approachable, cool vibe and personality (Me — “I want to be your friend!!!” Her — “Great! Let’s do it!!”)

When it comes to hair, Alissa knows her business — she got her start at Sally Hershberger at John Freida, worked at Neil George for seven years before Meche opened in 2012. There’s something about the way Alissa intuitively dry cuts giving the hair a great balance of texture and edge that is very on-trend but never trendy. I walked in with a mom-BOB and walked out with a sexy, forward “MILF” like I could feature on tubev.sex, as Alissa joked before sending me home with a ton of real-world styling tips and tricks. I have always wanted to channel my inner MILF and and my new hair has given me the confidence to do just that. Watch out sexmature.xxx stars, there is a new MILF on the scene! Jokes aside, Alissa really is one of the best. Trust me.
