Last night CISLA celebrated 11 years in Los Angeles and honored 3 Angelenos who have dedicated themselves professionally or through their personal philanthropy to supporting the youth of Los Angeles. I especially connect to this as I work with kids in South Central ( and soon to be teaching in Juvenile Hall – CANNOT WAIT!!!). My dear friend Ashlee Margolis gave the most breathtaking speech and if there was ever someone to WANT TO BE, it’s Ashlee. Incredible event for amazing cause, helmed by wonderful people. More of this please – everywhere. More of what we need in this town.

ABOUT COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS
Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation’s leading high school dropout prevention program whose mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Working nationally with nearly 1.5 million students in 25 states and Washington, D.C., CIS increases graduation rates and decreases dropout rates for the schools in which it serves.
CIS of Los Angeles (CISLA) (www.cislosangeles.org), founded in 2007, serves 10,000 students annually in 9 high need middle and high schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District, including 900 high risk students receiving case management from CIS Site Coordinators – trained social service professionals working and building relationships with students IN schools. Since its founding, over 40,000 students and their families have been supported. Last year, 100% of CISLA seniors graduated from high school.
CIS of Los Angeles’s vision is that every students in Los Angeles’ public schools receives the supports she or he need in order to develop the emotional, social and learning skills required to graduate high school ready for meaningful employment and higher education.
