Stasher: self-sealing, airtight, reusable non-plastic bag.

April 15, 2017

stasher is the first first—and only—self-sealing, airtight, reusable non-plastic bag! Made from 100% pure platinum silicone, stasher protects both the planet and your health. stasher can be reused thousands of times, making it a green alternative to plastic, but it also contains no BPA, BPS, phthalates, vinyl, petroleum or other icky chemicals found in plastic, making it safe to cook in (either sous vide or in the microwave) and eat out of.

I love cooking. I’m always in the kitchen, trying out some new foods and equipment. A little while ago, after looking at sous vide reviews, I got a sous vide machine that help me cook food so precisely that it never goes wrong. It allows a better taste of umami and increases juiciness. However, every time you cook with it, you need to use a plastic, sealable bag that you throw away after. I’m quite eco-concious so this didn’t sit that well with me. But now, stasher can allow you to cook with a sous vide machine and reduce waste even more! It’s an amazing perk. stasher is making my kid’s lunch boxes way more fun and green!

1,000+ years for plastic to begin degrading
20m plastic bags to landfill per year
10.5b pounds of plastic generated annually

it’s time to rethink plastic.

Sure, plastic is convenient and easy to use, but there’s no question that it’s toxic to the environment, and more worryingly, to our bodies. fortunately, you now have a healthier option: silicone is a more flexible, sustainable, and safer alternative to plastic, so it’s good for people and the planet.

reduce

less really is more—especially when it comes to saving natural resources and protecting the environment. reducing waste means making thoughtful choices every day. the less you throw away, the better for everyone!

+ buy only what you truly need

+ choose sustainably produced products with minimal packaging

+ compost food and organic waste

+ repair instead of buying new

+ borrow infrequently used items

+ take mass transit, ride a bike or walk to work

reuse

do what you can not to throw things in the can! instead, reuse whatever you can; and if you can’t use it, maybe someone else can. not only will you save money, but you’ll be keeping perfectly useful items from going to landfill.

+ always buy reusable vs. disposable items (like stasher!)

+ byob: bring your own (reusable) bags when you shop

+ visit consignment shops, thrift stores and the library

+ donate used clothes, books and household items

+ organize a neighborhood garage sale

recycle

cans, bottles, paper, minerals, timber, electronics, and more can now be repurposed instead of going to landfill. recycling reduces waste, conserves resources, saves energy, helps prevent pollution and reduces greenhouse gases. recycling also creates jobs and saves money—it’s a win-win for everyone!

+ participate in curbside recycling programs

+ recycle large appliances and building supplies

+ check with your local waste management company to learn more about e-waste recycling programs in your area

+ buy products made with recycled materials

rethink

of all the 4 rs, this one might be the easiest. simply changing the way you think can make a big difference. learn to be more conscious about what you buy, and what you throw away. make thoughtful choices every day, and you’ll see how little things add up over time.

+ make smarter choices when you buy

+ reconsider what you throw away

+ share what you can: rides, stuff, food

+ get involved (volunteer for beach clean up days, create a community garden, organize a neighborhood garage sale)
