Girl Blossom Skirt

It's a major score when I can steer my 4.5 year old girl away from all things Disney when it comes to her predominantly pink and purple sparkle-princess inspired wardrobe.  No matter how hard you try the Princess crap will creep in whether you like it or not.  It's preschool DNA or something.  It's a wardrobe malfunction nightmare that I've surrendered to.  It's at the point now where I save myself a Target return-shlep and go straight for the giant Ariel swathed nightgown.

But something cool happened when I slipped her a little GLUG.

(Did you got to the website yet?  Plotzing.)

SHE DUG IT.

You can imagine my glee.

I picked up a few pieces purely as an experiment and with basically no prodding, she was like: I DIG IT!  (More like "I can wear this skirt tomorrow and Noa (her BFF) is gonna loooveee it!  Is it so cool, mom?")

I shop for my daughter here.

And when my baby boy gets bigger I'll shop for him here.

Shellac Nails Really Work – Got mine at Plush Beauty Bar and I’m hooked.

November 24, 2010

Love mani's.  Go ga-ga over polish.  Hate the chipping.

Therefore manis for me are purely for grooming.  I forgo the polish, get a buffing instead and leave the salon looking forlornly at the latest shades that I always pass up because it'll be chipping off within hours in the life of this mom of two.

That was until I was introduced ( by the awesome Plush Beauty Bar team) to Shellac Nails.

This soak-off (ok, I peeled it off) glassy gel mani sounded too good to be true:

  • does not damage the nailbed
  • emits no harmful fumes or chemicals
  • lasts for up to two weeks without chipping
  • and has a beautiful, natural, smooth, thin texture.

It was even featured in the New York Times!

And guess what?

LOVED IT.

The color selection was not nearly as wide as the latest from OPI, obvi,  but I had a steely gray applied (for $34) and a perfect mani was all mine, chip-free for over two weeks.

Today it finally started to peel a bit.  I caught a peel-wave and by the end of one red light on route to a kiddie b-day party I had peeled all ten fingers off.  No polish remover!

My nails looked a little dry after, but some great hand-cream came to the rescue and now all good.  I cannot believe I can actually have polish on my nails now!  It's a whole new world.  Whoo hoo!

It it really does take a village to get groomed when you have a new baby (or toddler) which is why I'm groovin big time over Plush Beauty Bar for Moms.

Strollin’ the hood with le bebe and stumbled into the Harry and David pop-up store on Robertson…

November 19, 2010

Can you say "this aint your mama's gift basket catalogue" anymore?

After  hording sampling their (um, sorry… waxy?) chocolates and texting the hubby to see what flavor Moose Munch (ya know that insane choc-candy-caramelly covered popcorn stoner-food extravaganzzz) he liked (none, damn, no excuse to buy it) I texted myself to remember to do some investigating about this grandma-catalogue-gone-wild when I got home.

Harry and David – home of the infamous perfect pear and those gift baskets that you always wondered "who on earth buys those?" just got hip, (espesh with a Harrison and Shriftman hosted opening party).

My online stalking led me to THE DAILY TRUFFLE (love!) who did a full on expose of said opening.   Not to mention they got down and dirty with their food samplings. There's a serious retro-chic thing going on with this place and I'm diggin' the food offerings big time for their down-home-realness and lack of pomp.

Read on (below!) what these adorable kids had to say about le menu cuz to tell you the truth, all weekend with two ragamuffins, an outta town hubby and no sitter has got this blogista ready….for….bed….
