Beverly Hills Color Bar – Tara get’s her roots on…

Hold on to your follicles!  Gorgeous Beverly Hills priced hair can be yours without breaking the bank at Beverly Hills Color Bar.

This hip and intimate salon (directly across from the Peninsula Hotel) is fresh, clean and modern with a warm and inviting staff and from the moment I read the list of services my grown-out highlights were instantly intrigued.  Their services have the most fun and flirty titles ever:  “Let’s Bounce” (perms), “Day at the Beach” (half head of highlights), “Erase the Past” (color for getting out the gray), “Sit Back and RELAX” (Keratine straightening system) and my favorite “OMG Look What Happened to my Hair” (color correction)

And what really made my hair stand on end were the amazingly low prices as in $60 for a ladies cut, $35 for men, $40 for an amazing blow out, $55 for a color base lift and $95 for a ½ head of highlights.  Are you kidding?

The Color Bar’s motto is indulgence without regret, and with prices like these, I could easily keep my roots in check without burning a hole in my pocketbook.

Excited to give my hair a makeover, I met with co-owner and hairstylist extraordinaire Malcolm McAlpine.   For someone's who's worked on Hollywood royalty, he's immensely down to earth and genuine.  And that's the vibe of the BH Color Bar – no pretension, just high-end services with a warm, laid back atmosphere.

Malcolm invited me to pull up a seat at the actual color BAR where, unlike your typical hair salon, everything is front and center and clients can chat with their stylist and discuss their treatment while being a part of the color mixing process.

Hello Bartender!  With the perfect martini mixture of golden highlights, this could be my favorite new drinking hole!

Malcolm gave me a brilliant hair cut – exactly what I wanted – full of body and layers. Plus, a GREAT blow out. Big, dazzling, flowing, off-the-page, fashion model hair.

Best blow dry ever. EVER!

FLAKEY WINTER SKIN BE GONE! MY LATEST SCRUB OBSESH’S.

December 8, 2010

When it comes to grabbing for a great body scrub in the shower – I'm salty.

I like my crystals big.  I like them drenched in extra oil that I can pour on my body afterwards.  And it really comes down to an out of this world smell to turn what could be a mundane experience into shower nirvana.

I've got two that have been in heavy rotation for the past few months:

LALICIOUS makes some kick ass Sugar Souffle scrubs from pure sugar cane crystals, almond and vitamin oils and then some.

The Tahitian Flower Sugar Souffle Scrub ($16 oz. $34) is like a trip to Hawaii (or I guess that would be Thailand right? Never been.  Hawaii is close enough).  The smell is SICK. They say 'no going back' on their website and they are right.  I'm making my way through every flavor (like Brown Sugar and Vanilla – yummaayy).

I alternate that one with good old HUGO'S NATURALS.

Yep, this one that you've seen before a million times in Whole Foods and is totally reasonable at $17.99.

Made from mineral rich salts, brown sugar, kukui oil, almond oil, jojoba ester and powerful emollients, the Grapefruit Himalayan Pink Salt Scrub is the big hitter out of the bunch.

A fab salt scrub really is the best way to keep winter skin moist and dry skin free.  I love to add a little water to the jar and make even MORE divine smelling oil and when I'm done scrubbing just pour it all over.

Both these scrubs are totally affordable and exquisite.  Not to mention why not stick this is a stocking?  I'd be ga-ga over a stocking stuffer like this!
