My hand-cream obsesh – OLIVINA NAPA VALLEY (in Honeysuckle Rose) – has a sweet V-day giftie

February 7, 2011

Olivina soap and handcreme
Olivina handcreme set

I've been meaning to write about my hand cream crush for months.

I only forgot to post about it because I used it all up (I'm talking – cut a hole in the tube to squeeze out every last bit – used up) and have been lost without it ever since. Like an old boyfriend, I had to forget about it, as I have since been, oh so heartbroken. Nevertheless, I am in major heart with the smell and feel of everything this line makes. And will do whatever it takes to get my lover back. Even if it means going for one of these adorable V-Day offerings.

OLIVINA NAPA VALLEY.

Inspired by the natural beauty of the wine country of northern California, OLIVINA NAPA VALLEY is literally and figuratively a green company. The foundation ingredients—hand-pressed, anti-oxidant olive and grape seed oils—come from a landscape dotted with olive trees and world-renowned grapevines, a reference to both its Mediterranean climate and the heritage of many who settled the valley.

And The Honeysuckle Rose scent.  Forget not being a rose-scenty-person, this one is not like anything you've ever smelled.  And the texture of the hand cream, woe is me, it's like crack for dry hands.  They eat it up, want more, can't get enough, and freak out when they don't get another hit of it.  I'm telling you.  I'm in withdrawal without it.

The Valentine's giftie is perfection for a girlfriend, co-worker, or mama. Or me.

Check it out:

You get the “Olive Me” heart-shaped soap presented in a custom-designed valentine-red bag with a one-ounce hand crème. $28.00.

This set is available in Olive, Lavender and Honeysuckle Rose. ( GO FOR THE ROSE!)

But if you can’t decide on a scent to gift,  go for the collection of five 1 oz. Olivina hand cremes also tucked in a beautiful red burlap pouch. $41.00.

(The soap is a subtle blend of delicate honeysuckle blossoms and Rosa rugosa, this luxurious bath soap and hand crème moisturizes, cleanses, protects and nourishes all skin types with straight-from-the-earth ingredients. Shea butter, coconut oil, rose-hip oil, chamomile, sea algae, kelp, avocado oil, aloe vera, sweet almond, comfrey are enriched with thier exclusive blend of antioxidant-rich olive and grapeseed oils. Olivina is always free of parabens and sulfate and cruelty-free.)

Groomed L.A. is getting a face-lift!

Yup, GROOMED L.A. is getting some work done.

We're making the move to WordPress, which hopefully has a better editing system so that my horrific typos from late night, bleary eyed posting will actually be caught when I click "spell check" and I don't come off like an illiterate buffoon.  I do remember 4 years at Vassar.  Sort of.

Anyhoo, I need you to hang on while we make the switch-a-roni!

Things will look a little funky while we're in healing mode.  But please bare with us.

A new, more fabulous looking site is on the horizon!

This is going down next week, so don't le-freak if you click on us and it says something weird, ok??

Like they say in A.A. (not that I would know, seriously, alcohol has way too many calories for me) KEEP COMING BACK!

Oh Beautiful Baby – MAYRON’S GOODS for baby (and me!)

February 3, 2011

 Gb_honme3

The Emmy winning actress/director Melanie Mayron, ya know, of "thirysomething" set out to make the ultimate, natural diaper cream.  Luckily for her, her dad, David, is a renowned pharmaceutical chemist and the man behind many other well known brands (her family, helmed by sis Gale, developed the omnipresent JAO Hand Sanitizer…I have NEVER been on film set where this was not on every counter of the make up trailer).

After 12 years of testing and formulating (what you think this happens over night?) they debuted this fabulous line loaded with natural and aromatherapeutic healing ingredients, essential oils and vitamins.  There's a ton of natural baby products on the market but I am totally gaga over this line.

Baby AJ's cheeks are beyond chapped from our blasting the heat in our apartment and my being too lazy to go to Target to buy a humidifier (or shop for one online for that matter).  I'm talking red, chaffy and on the verge of flaking off.

After two days of  CHAPTSTUFF (1oz.  $14), a perfectly sized stick to fight cold, wind desert and "life" as the call it, is killin it.  It's jam packed with Shea Butter based Cocoa and an  Orange concoction of Organic and Essential Oils, including Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil, Beeswax, Soybean Oil, Chamomile, Orange Oil, Tangerine Oil, Calendula Extract, Aloe Vera and Vitamin E. Paraben Free. 99.5% Natural.

I AM OBSESSED WITH IT.

And I'm smearing it all over my hands and lips too. Uh, buh-bye Aquaphor.

I'm just cracking opening the rest of the line and it's all so, so fab.

Click the links below to explore the rest of the line.

Oh and the packaging and design will knock your sox off.  :)

(and this part makes me cry….a word from Melanie herself)

A portion of the sales will be going to Women's Health Research. Here's why. Being a product of my parents, this has been an opportunity for my Dad and me to work together. It is also an opportunity for my Mom and me to do the same. My mother Norma helped build Jao, and is incredibly supportive of Mayron's Goods. She is also a breast cancer survivor. She's doing great. But I wanted to represent her in this effort as well. By donating to different medical research organizations specializing in women's health, I feel I am honoring Norma here too.

So all that said, Mayron's Goods is the result of a huge effort by my family and myself and all our life experiences combined, to bring to you the most natural and effective really incredibly neat stuff for your baby's skin.

And you don't have to be a baby to use it.

After all, we're all somebody's baby.

ART FIX – Elizabeth Colomba

February 2, 2011

22068_1193127024163_1108024637_30499991_7492484_nMy friend Elizabeth is a sick painter.

She's like Kahinde Wiley meets Sargent meets Caravaggio meets Degas meets Vermeer meets Velázquez.

Originally from Paris, I met her here in L.A. when she was making it as a story-board artist for films like Romeo and Juliet, One Hour Photo, Jesse James, etc.

She skipped town for brighter pastures and high tailed to N.Y.C. to do nothing but paint.

Looks like the move paid off.  Her paintings are starting to hit it – big time.

Capella Pedrega – Cabo San Lucas

January 31, 2011

Capella pedregal

HAPPY MONDAY!

Let's start the week with a little day-dreamin, shall we?

Kiwi Travel/WOW Magazine's GROOMED L.A. pick of the month 🙂

Perfection at Capella Pedregal

By Karen Mumby, Contributing Editor

You tunnel in, but there is plenty of light at the other end.

Capella Pedregal sits quietly in Cabo San Lucas, but the only way in is through a private tunnel. That is the first, but certainly not the only, remarkable thing about this resort.

At night it is even lit with torches. Once you are through, and onto the grounds, there is another level of delight. The grounds are planted with local plants and include an extensive herb garden. Probably the best way to describe it all is a well-manicured desert.

Cappella's architecture is welcoming and peaceful; right away you feel at home. The rooms, suites and villas are the definition of luxury; all feature spectacular ocean views. There are special touches throughout. Each room is carefully decorated to make sure guests feel pampered, treated to something special. (The only downside is the ocean is not swimmable which is common in Cabo. It’s those dangerous riptides.) The rooms have an intuitively nice arrangement, everything where it ought to be, and easy therefore to find.

Lunch at Don Manual means you will have the best ceviche, wonderful guacamole, and fabulous fish taco's. And the espresso, well, it is great; you cannot always take that for granted. El Farallon is located out on the point above the surf, with incredible views. The views are lovely, certainly, but you are also looking out at the paces from which your food is taken, usually that very day. Everything is served fresh out of the sea.

The Auriga spa is like no other, unique and completely relaxing. Whale-watching cruises, eco-tours, snorkeling, and parasailing are also available. You will be in good shape heading into one of the many music events the resort features. John Legend & The Roots with special guest star Joss Stone were onstage from December 10th to 12th.
